bunk beds

We've been going back & forth over getting the girls bunk beds. Right now Caileigh is in a full and Keira in her convertible toddler bed! I'd like to get more floor space in their room so bunk beds are a great solution but I'm worried about Caileigh falling out. She has a tendency to move alot in her sleep & she will talk in her sleep and once in a great while get out of bed. I'm worried she will sleep walk and fall out. Anyone have this experience?

we don't have bunks at home, but Jake and Liam shared bunk beds the week we were on vacation recently. I was also worried about Jake on the top because he moves around a lot in his sleep (I often find him upside down, or laying completely sideways in his bed when I check on him at night), and he has a history of night terrors. But he was totally fine at the beach....I'm sure the everyday exhaustion helped, but there were no issues. It had a pretty big rail that went nearly the whole way across the top of it, so that made me feel a bit better, too. To be honest, by night 2 I was more worried about Liam wanting to sleep in bed with his brother and trying to climb up by himself in the middle of the night!

My brother and I had bunk beds for a a few years when we were little. He slept on the top bunk and was a sleep walker. He would climb down the ladder and all without missing a beat.

How old is little sister? Would it be possible for her to sleep on the top?

Caileigh was too nervous to sleep in the top bunk on vacation & this weekend we went camping and she slept up top but had a hard time sleeping & at one point began crawling out of the bunk! Luckily I was below and saw her but I'm not sure if she was sleep walking or was awake but groggy. I think I'd be more comfortable with Keira on top but not sure she would do it.

Have you seen the pool noodle trick? You shove a pool noodle under the fitted sheet on the outward facing side of the bed (assuming it's against a wall, you could do pool noodles on each side if that's not the case).

is that like a bed rail? There are rails on each side of the top bunk, I guess I'm more worried about her walking in her sleep and forgetting she is on top

We got a single over double bunk bed for the lake. It's up against the wall and has a rail that goes all the way across except for where the ladder goes up.

Jackson moves in his sleep a lot, but has done fine with the top bunk, but he also has the ability to sleep with Michael on the bottom if he wants to. I was really happy with this bed.

It also has three drawers of storage under the double bed, which has been great for storing all the sheets for the bed.

that sounds like the one we are looking at - I really want to get the bunks to free up floor space in the room. Plus there is the option of making it a trundle which the girls would like but I'd like the drawers!

Lisa - Where did you get your bunkbed? I was looking at full on full bunkbeds, but they either look pretty flimsy, or are really pricey.

Sheila, we also have a daybed with a trundle underneath. My boys LOVE it.

Meghan, we got it off Wayfair. You slept in it, it's very sturdy. It was fairly reasonable too. With the underbed drawers it was $681.

My nephew has the full over twin from Pottery Barn Kids. My parents bought it for him for his second birthday. Seven years later it is still in perfect condition. His room is tiny and this gave them the option of using his room as a guest room since their third bedroom is my BIL office.

I like the steps, but I also want the option to separate the beds, and I want a full over full, which there doesn't seem to be a lot of options. Also, most of the PB options are definitely not in the price range I was looking for. I made the mistake of spending a lot on nursery furniture, and it looks like sh!t now, so I'm not doing that again. (No piece of furniture can withstand hurricane Garrett! lol)
