I love my cat, but...

I'm on a Disney message board and there's a group for people who are going in September. Kind of like the anniversary boards around these parts :-) Anywho, someone just posted that they have to cancel their trip. Would you like to know why? Of course you do. Because the vet told them that their cat doesn't have much longer to live and they want to spend his last days with him. Ummm...what?!?! Is it callous of me that I don't get this at all? If the cat is that sick...shouldn't they consider putting him down..? They'd rather lose lots of dollars..? And what if he dies tomorrow?! What then? I would NEED to go on the trip to help cheer me up! I know most of you are dog people, so I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

Re: I love my cat, but...

  • Call me a bad fur mom but if I had a trip planned to Disney, I'm not canceling it.

  • I'm torn about this. I love hunter and wouldn't want him to pass alone... But I'd have a hard time justifying missing a huge trip like that. If he's in pain etc, I'd put him down, and go on the trip to help me like Janet said.

  • Think this person is serious or just looking for sympathy? If you truly loved your cat, don't make them pass away slowly if you have another option.

I love my cat, but seriously!? If he was going to go anyway, I'd probably have him put down to avoid dragging out his death (for his sake).....and then go to Disney!
  • Yeah, this is tough. I love my kitties, but F all that, I'd probably just go on the trip anyway!

  • Isn't this the whole reason that trip insurance exists?  I am not a fur momma, but if I was going to lose all that money, I would go on the trip. If I could postpone the trip without extra cost, or get my money back.. I'd probably stay behind.
  • I'm obsessed with my dogs, but I wouldn't cancel a trip because of them. I agree with you girls, if one of them was in pain i'd put them to sleep:(
  • Thank you for showing me that I'm not heartless, ladies!

Interesting thought.  Could be.  Unfortunately, there are over 100 people who post on the September trip board, so I don't really have a feel for anyone.  It's mostly AWing (i.e. LOOK AT ME, I GOT MY MAGIC BANDS!!! [which I totally did, of course]) and questions about things like making dining reservations.
