  • I don't know if this will be unpopular or not...

    We should legalize doctor-assisted suicide/euthanasia.

  • @nfp147 I saw your post on FB last night and almost commented. I agree. I sit and watch my grandmother in pain every day and just watch her suffer and lose even more of herself every single day. She hardly dresses herself anymore and she is ready to be done. The good days aren't even good days anymore, they are not so bad days. She asks my mother almost every day why she can't just be done. It's sad and I hate seeing her like that. She is slowly losing her last shred of dignity and she is embarrassed and ashamed and feels like a burden. The woman who wrote that blog post you shared hit the nail on the head in so many different ways. I cried while reading it.
  • I'm sorry you have to see your Grandma like that Bruins.  My Grandma is quite sick as well and just the other day she asked my Mom "how long do you think this will take?".  It was heartbreaking.  I'm not sure that she would decide to take her own life, but that should be an option (in my opinion).

  • I hate the self check out lines at super markets. It constantly has errors, makes you wait for assistance, and honestly it just isn't much faster than a cashier line. Plus my super market always have 4 or 5 self check outs and 1 or 2 cashiers. WHY?
Plus I like going to a cashier! It is a position that gives someone an income and the self check out takes that income away from other potential cashiers.

  • I love the self-checkout; I just hate most of the people who use them!  I think you should have to have training before you're allowed to use it.  I worked in a grocery store in high school and I am very particular about packing groceries, so I'd rather just do it myself.

All that being said, I ONLY use the self-checkout for small orders.  Full carts do not belong there.

    I have grocery store issues.

T-TTC since Dec 2008. PCOS/nonexistant cycles(anovulation) and endo. HSG in '10 revealed both tubes blocked. Lap surgery in Dec '10 to correct. Failed Clomid/IUI and injectable(Bravelle)/IUI cycles so far.

My Dh has punched a self check out machine before.  We have self check out issues.  I think the issue is that most of the ones around us are already dated and slow so it makes using them so frustrating.

  • I 100% agree that doctor assisted suicide/euthanasia should be legal.  My grandmom has been suffering for years and it is just not fair for someone to go through so much pain and misery.  If someone doesn't want to live anymore and has medicial reasons that are making their life awful, then there should be a way to put them to rest peacefully instead of making them suffer longer.

The holding-hands family photos are so done and need to stop. They seem very cliche.

I love self-checkout and I'm on the fence about Dr-assisted suicide.

ETA was going to post a pic of what I consider a cheesy family photo but TN is not letting me.

We should shop together.  I put things on the belt to be packed together and then the packer puts them in all different bags!

This is one of my biggest pet peeves. There's one cashier at the supermarket I go to that gets it. The others just throw things in the bags willy nilly. Also, I sometimes use the hand scanner because then I can bag everything as I shop. It's the best thing ever.

Yes! DH laughs at me when I get so frustrated with how things are bagged. I also put them on in a certain office. I always thank the bagger when they do it correctly!

  • I <3 self checkout.  But you all need to get to a store that has handheld scanners!  You scan and bag as you shop.  When you're done, you hit the self checkout, scan one barcode, scan your coupons, pay and you're done.  So much faster.

We did a family photo shoot and had a family holding hands pic. It's one of my faves. Mostly because my niece and nephew are being held in the air.

I love self-checkout... Mostly because I have reusable grocery bags (4 actually) and can manage to pack a cartful of groceries into those bags. At the regular register, I ALWAYS end up with plastic bags... Not ok. The only problem I frequently have with self-checkout is when the helper person wanders away and doesn't return for 5 minutes. So frustrating!

I 100% agree with assisted suicide, when appropriate. I definitely think that a process needs to be in place (including court involvement and psych testing).

Hugs to you both, Bruins and nfp, about your Gma's. I couldn't imagine. :(

  • There are certian cashiers at our local grocery store that I will stand in their line even if other lines are shorter just because of the way they bag.

I prefer DH bags because he does a really great job, but if that isnt possible and I cant get "my cashiers" I tend to leave the store irritated with a shit ton more pastic bags than I can stand.

Giant (MD) has them. The shopping carts have little holders built in to hold the scanners. You can use the app on your phone too. And it sends you "coupons" while you shop. I'm pretty much ruined from shopping any other way.

  • Super late and off the grocery store topic... I don't think BYOB is appropriate unless you are having an impromptu GTG. I know most people will show up with beer or wine to a party or cookout, but I think hosts should always have staples on hand if they host a party at their home. How hard is it to pick up two bottles of wine, some Sam, and another beer?
I completely agree. I think there is an age limit though where BYOB is still appropriate. I think early to mid-20's are totally ok to do BYOB. Once you start getting closer to 30 though, I really think it's time to at least supply some staples, like you said. And at that point, if guests know they are going to want something special then they can bring that for themselves.

Why doesn't my Giant have this?! NEED!!

I'm super picky about how my groceries are packed, too. I put all refrigerated items on the belt first, followed by pantry items, then anything I might have picked up that's non-edible. And I ALWAYS bring my own shopping bags and make sure to pull them out so the cashier/bagger knows to use them first. I always have to tell them to load the bags up, though. Otherwise, they think I'm a wimp who can't handle a heavy bag and only half load them, and then use plastic. :P

  • I guess the UO here is that I couldn't care less how my groceries are packed. They go from the store to the car to the fridge/shelf so quickly that it's not something I stress about. Usually I'm a control freak but this isn't on my radar.
