car seat wwyd

Dd1 is 5 and in a Britax Pioneer high back booster with a 5 point harness.  Dd2 will be 4 in October and still using a car seat. Height wise, she is probably going to need to move to a booster in a couple of months.  So...would you buy a second 5 point harness booster for little dd?   Or would you buy a high back no harness booster for big dd and give the harness one to little dd?  My 5 year old is about 45 inches tall but as of May she was only 35/36 lbs.  Financially speaking, I'm liking the cost of a non harness booster much more than a 5 point one, but I did originally think I would use the 5 point harness as long as possible.

Re: car seat wwyd

  • I think it is really just a matter of what you personally feel comfortable with.  legally DD1 should be fine in a highback belt positioning booster.  Is she pushing back at all about being in a 5pt harness? if you feel most comfortable with her in one, then keep her in it longer.  That being said, EJ was about 5.5 when she started using a seat belt and we have not had any problems with her moving around and not being "safe" while in it.
  • I would probably buy a non 5 pt high back booster for oldest and give current seat to dd2. I also thought if use 5 point for as long as possible but logistics and ease of use pushed me to convert. We did it last year when dd was a little over 5. She was about 40lbs 40 inches and has been fine. I had to buy a new seat for her last year and I just couldn't see buying a 5 pt harness because I didn't see her being in it for very much longer anyways. I was a bit worried to switch but I hated her buckles on her seat so life was so much easier! Not that I base safety decisions on that but she was 5pt longer than anyone else we know.
