Help me spend $$ on YA books

My library just received a generous donation to spend on books for our collection, so we've split it up between adults, children's, and YA. As the recently hired teen librarian, I now have $250 extra to spend on YA books this month (in addition to my regular book budget woohoo!). We get a discount of about half price for ordering through a certain company, so this amount will go a long way.

The library went a few months without a teen librarian, so it's possible some great books were missed over the summer.  And even though I've only been here a month, I'm about to go on maternity leave any day now, so I need to pre-order some fall releases.

What was the best YA book you read this summer? What are your most anticipated YA books for the fall? I'm excited to spend this extra money!

  • Isla and the Happily Ever After

Blue Lily, Lily Blue  (and all of the other Raven Cycle books if you don't have them)

My reading this year has been pretty slim, so I'm not much help.

Lauren's book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)

  • Oh and Jandy Nelson's new book comes out next  month!  I'll Give You the Sun

Disclaimer: I'm "president" of the above debut group. But I've read all 20 books, and I can honestly recommend them for your patrons. There are some discussion guides on the site as well, if that's helpful to you.

ETA: I agree with everyone else's suggestions too, but I assume your library already has the bestsellers in its collection.

  • I've read some really enjoyable YA this summer, I must say. I'm sure your library has the most popular YA already. So some lesser known titles...

I have really been enjoying Cinder and Scarlet by Marissa Meyer this week, and Fairest is due out in 152 days. I also was very entertained by the somewhat scary Enclave, Outpost and Horde by Ann Aguirre. Earlier this summer I read the conclusions to Leigh Bardugo's and Laini Taylor's series, and they were both excellent.

Within the last year, I've also read Entwined by Heather Dixon, a 12 Dancing Princesses retake, and it was entertaining too. Rebecca Ethington has a series that starts with Kiss of Fire that is somewhat entertaining but lacks on originality, and Dawn of Ash is expected this fall. I did a Beastly reread, and I consider that a very good YA Beauty and the Beast retelling.

Thanks for the suggestions! I think we normally would have ordered all the bestsellers or or anticipated bestsellers, but they didn't  order much YA over the summer without a teen librarian. So some of the bigger name books (like Isla!) were never ordered. I'm glad I have some extra money to catch up and fill in some of the gaps. :)

  • I don't know if you've got Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor since this is pre-summer, but that would definitely be on my must-have list.

    Also:
Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas comes out soon (next week, I think?)
Push Girl by our own @Y_L
Salt and Storm by Kendall Kulper is out soon too. I just started it, but I predict this will be awesome.
My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories, edited by Stephanie Perkins (I think this comes out Octoberish)
