QOTD 8/28

Recently a plane was diverted because 2 passengers got into an argument about reclining a seat.

How do you feel about reclining seats in planes?

  • Personally I hate them. A) they don't recline enough to actually be comfortable therefore B) they recline just enough to be a nuisance to the person behind you.

  • Ok, they just don't recline that far back.  I don't understand the issue.  Maybe because I'm short..

I've had seats in front of emergency exits before so I couldn't recline and my back hurt so bad by the end of the flight.

  • I don't recline my seat on flights and I'm short enough that my legroom isn't too impeded if the person in front of me does. So I have no dog in this fight. I do think there has to be a better way to design planes for both comfort and efficiency, though, besides just squeezing everyone into progressively smaller spaces.

  • I was not surprised this happened when I heard about it earlier in the week.

I don't care really. But my husband does because the seats recline into his knees, and that is even if he is reclined himself. But, we try to book with the more leg room seats for this reason.

  • I really don't care about reclining seats either because of the same reason others said.  I'm short and don't require a lot of room.  But, I can see a taller person being annoyed with it.

Now, the fact that two people found it necessary to fight over it is ridiculous.

  • I HATE reclining seats on planes! Although I am short, it stinks when the person in front of me reclines. I don't recline because it doesn't recline enough to be comfortable. On our way back from Italy, the person in front of me was reclined the entire time! Luckily, we had extra leg room seats! I feel so badly for H though...he's 6 foot, so if the person in front of him reclines, their seat hits his knees. It's just not fair to the person behind you to have a small angle of recline.

On our way to Italy, we had premium economy seats on Air France. The seat reclined within itself so that you didn't disturb the person behind you. It still didn't really recline enough to be comfortable, but at least the person in front of me didn't invade my space if they reclined.

  • I never recline my seat. I don't really care if the person in front of me reclines. Except...I've been in the row directly behind the exit row and the person in front of me reclined. Seriously? You don't have enough room that you need to recline too? I wanted to cut a bitch.

  • I've never been on a plane so I don' have any insight! I imagine I'd hate someone in front of me reclining theirs though.

  • I think that fight was ridiculous.  I understand that people want space, but you have to come to some sort of agreement.

I don't recline a lot, just slightly so I'm not straight up and down.  I can only think of one time that someone reclined all the way and took over all of my space.  I do prefer extra legroom seats and will pay extra for them every time after my amazing experience with it last summer.
  • Plane seats recline? Today I learned. (Haven't been on a plane since 2001)

I think I'd be a bit irked if someone was basically squishing my legs, but I understand the need to be comfortable.
