Can we talk Braxton Hicks?

Anyone get them?

Last night about an hour after falling asleep I wake up to pain. Mostly back pain that shot around my tummy. I got up walled around, didn't really help. Felt like cramps, low at times, up higher at others. I tried to time it but not sure if I count the back pain or just the front. The front was every 6 mins and lasted 30 seconds.

I decided to sleep and if it woke me up then it was worth tracking. I only woke up at 1 then 3. Just one stab of pain, mostly cramping.

Was that BH? I called in sick so I can sleep in. I'm going in around 9 to wrap things up just in case. I still have the lower back pain, and the very low cramping. I have an appt at 3. My NST will show contractions if I'm having them. But wondering if anyone felt this until then.

Braxon Hicks are pretty much like pretend, lighter contractions. I had them a LOT with Lillian. All of a sudden my belly would get really tight, sometimes with some lower back pain. My belly actually looked smaller because it was contracting so tightly. You're not supposed to have more than 5 braxon hicks in an hour, but I always had a lot more than that.

If your contractions were that regular, I'd venture to guess they were prelabor contractions. Unfortunately, contractions can start happening weeks before the baby comes. Your body is just warming up!

When they're REAL, they WILL wake you up and you will know. Believe me.

I never drank a lot of water, and if I was  having BH I could drink a ton of water and they'd go away.

    She's coming, Mana!!
  • Ahhhh, so exciting! I had them every now and then with A, not so much with M. They did sound like you are describing, but never that consistent. My water also broke both times before I ever had any real contractions so I don't have my experience with the pre-term kind. She will be here soon!

  • Ahhhhh! I'm think it was bh but scared me and Jeff enough that our bags are packed and in my jeep now. I was scared of my appt anyway because of the swelling, but now I'm nervous and excited. She's been in position for 3 weeks now, head down, legs tucked, facing my back. Time will tell I guess.

@s517‌ - I've been drinking 100-120 oz a day. Just because I just sip away all day.

When you go into labor, it's not a jump in the car and go thing. It's a few hours of laboring at home, getting ready, and waiting to go to the hospital. Don't stress- you will have time to get things in the car.

When they start, get a shower...try to take a nap...eat a HUGE meal...and get ready for your life to change.

Ditto the eating. Greg forgot to bring my breakfast in the car and I thought they would let me eat at the hospital since my contractions weren't consistent. Um, no. They let me eat ice and popsicles from  when we got there at 10am, until I had him at 5:55pm, even though I hadn't ate anything since dinner the night before. I was miserable.

Seriously. Sneak food. I didn't eat from 6am-2:45pm with L and I could barely push bc I was just SO hungry.
  • Haha I know it's a long process and it's good to do a lot of it at home.  I've just been reading all these birth stories on my BMB and it was like "went to my reg appt, and they admitted me... here's my baby!".  I just want to be prepared.  I think Hunter thought I was moving out.

Jeff wanted me to take a bath last night.  I told him - What if my water breaks?!  I won't know!!!

Then my mom told me I'm not allowed to eat once contractions started.  I'm like Um... I don't think so mama!  But I heard I get juice/ice cream if my BS gets too low while in labor.  So I have that.  I've been feel nauseous after I eat since dinner yesterday.

  • well it could happen that way Mana, but I went to my appt. and she said we're inducing you at 2am. there are so many different ways it could go.

Its baby time and I cannot wait to meet Eliza!! aahhh.

also, pack food in your bags. you'll want something to eat as soon as she's born and it may not be easy to get food. I was STARVING by the time I gave birth and I was soo soo happy to have snacks.

Yes. It's all about food. You're not SUPPOSED to eat once you get there because if they have to do an anything crazy and sedate you they don't want you to aspirate. However, I packed a lot of snacks in my bag this time to sneak- the risk of asperating is so much lower than the risk of me being F'in hungry.
  • yeah I snacked throughout labor. honestly while in labor food was the last thing on my mind, but the second he was born I needed food and then sleep.

I wouldn't say I was hungry during labor, but after 11 hours, I had no energy left to push for 2 1/2 hours. I really think I would have pushed for less time had I eaten more recently.
  • Well, my appt went well.

First they did the NST, and it showed mild contractions, pretty consistently.  Eliza reacted fine to them (no decrease in HB).  Tech didn't seem to think it was an issue.

I was waiting to see my midwife and I hear outside "Can she FEEL these?!"  The door was open and she comes in and asks me with my NST read out in her hand.  I'm like um, the contractions?  She's like YEA!  I tell her yea it's just like mild cramps.  She decides to check me since I guess I tested positive for the Strep group b test.  Seriously, I'm failing everything!  She said if I was dilated I was going to L&D so they can start the antibiotics.  Well... I wasn't.  She said they will could go away, or get more intense and start dilating me.  So, we wait.  Jeff will only be in Lancaster tomorrow and he told work what was going on.  FX he stays close!

    EEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKK! C'mon Eliza!!!

But, just for the record...prelabor can last for weeks. I know of women who walked around having strong contractions for weeks. FX that is NOT you. I AM SO EXCITED. COME NOW BABY. K THANKS.
  • I guess my read out looked worse than I was, that's why she freaked out. But then she came in and I'm sitting there reading lol. They eased up last night, but I'm getting the back pain again thus morning. I feel like if they aren't being productive then they can go. But I'm not gonna lie, I was hoping I had dilated. I'm ready to meet her!

She told me it could be soon or weeks. She said only track if they take my breath or I can't talk through them. So, we wait...
