What's going on with you?

Just thought I'd start a new thread for all our updates, whether they be exciting or mundane.

I can't believe it's practically September. Who's ready for fall?! And anniversaries!

We had Pre-K orientation today for the kiddo, his first day is Tuesday.

Work has been great! I started a new position over the summer and I'm kicking butt.

I haven't heard from MIL in two weeks. She has been by twice to see the kiddo during the day when H is here and I am at work. H and I have agreed we are both comfortable with having her here for a visit once a week and that is all. While I'm still upset by her actions, the outcome from it all is so relieving.

Your turn!

Re: What's going on with you?

  • I'm halfway done cooking this baby, so that's my biggest news. Unfortunately, with vacations and other stuff going on, we haven't done anything -- even buy a onesie for the little guy! All that is to change soon, though.

Next week H and I are going on a road trip vacay. I'm not exactly pumped about it, but it's something. We had originally planned to go to Mexico but ...

I found out I have to reapply for my job. There's a huge restructure going on at my newspaper and my job will not exist after the first week of October. So it's been a huge stressor for me and I've been frantically applying for new jobs -- I kind of feel like even if I do retain a position here, I don't want to be a part of it. This company makes me feel sick, knowing what I put into it (here until almost 8 every night this week) and how little they care about me. But it's not easy, and it's especially not easy searching for a job when you're 20 weeks pregnant.

  • sdose - that blows. I don't blame you for looking for a new job.

Work is all I've been up to. The new school year has started off crazy because the kids schedules are all wrong so they keep switching kids in and out of my classes. I feel like I've re-taught my day 1 lesson (procedures/rules/etc) 5 times now.

Nothing new on the home front. It's H, the dog, and me. Next year marks 1 year of being homeowners.
  • @sdose - That sucks! You should find a place that will appreciate your work!

@quirky75 - the school year has started for you already? Before Labor Day? That seems a little early.

As for me, we had a very busy summer. Had two weddings (both involved travel), went north to Churchill for work and got to kayak and snorkel with beluga whales, which was amazing! We also saw polar bears, including a momma bear and her two cubs swimming in Hudson Bay. Definitely a trip of a lifetime and I'm so glad DH was able to come with me. And I was in Vancouver and Seattle with girlfriends (a business turned pleasure trip). I'm actually looking forward to a quiet September.

For our anniversary and our own just-for-fun trip, we're going to the Maritimes for two weeks in October. I'm excited to get away and not have to worry about work.
  • @ldawngirl We already have 2 weeks done. Teachers had to report back August 8 and kids started on the 19th. We start early down here.
  • Wow! When does the year wrap up? Is that typical of all U.S. schools?
  • We finish June 5. When I was up in PA/NJ, we didn't go back until after Labor Day and finished 2-3 weeks into June. I think it's a southern thing to go back earlier.

I'm in the Mid-west and we go back to school early/mid-Aug here as well (finish end of May/beginning of June). I actually thought it was pretty much that way all around the US. I'm curious now about how each region does it.

  • In the northeast, we started after Labor Day and finished mid-June. Here in texas school starts the week before Labor Day and let's out in I think late May.

So I got food poisoning last night which has been super awesome. It's mostly gone now, but I'm super tired. Kiddos first day of Pre-K is tomorrow so I foresee an early bedtime for me.
