Anniversary?

Ok our 2nd anniversary is quickly coming upon us! What are you ladies doing for gifts? Are you following the cotton tradition? I want to but am having trouble with coming up with a good idea!

Re: Anniversary?

  • Since $$ is a bit snug right now for our household, I'm only getting H two things (neither of which fall under the cotton thing)

He loves to bake things. So I am getting him a copy of a book called a The Bread Bible. It has all sorts of techniques and recipes in it.

One of his favorite video games is coming out with a version of Monopoly in September. So I preordered that and will have to hide it somewhere around the house till October.

  • I haven't even thought about a gift. We aren't gift people... And by Oct 6 we will have a newborn. H asked what I wanted I said a shower and a nap lol.

Cotton is so hard. All I can think is yarn and making him something... But I'm still working on a baby blanket and I need to make her a hat for her pictures.

  • @mana8503‌ a shower and a nap will make for the perfect gift lol!

I'm trying to book a weekend away somewhere close that we can go and enjoy as a family. We will probably forgo actual gifts but now that you mention cotton I'm sure I could find something inexpensive.
  • For cotton we are doing either clothes or new bedding.
We did the modern list last year but since this year's was crystal and we couldn't think of anything we went the traditional route for cotton.

  • I was not going the cotton route, but getting him some books instead.  He is very into wilderness survival so I'm going to get him some books on edible wilds and stuff.

  • Well we aren't following the gift thing at all. I just paid a coworker yesterday for a ps4, so even though he knows about it, it's part of his present. Also, 2 weeks after, Jimmy eat world is coming to town and they're one of his favorites, so we'll be going to see them.

  • I am weirdly obsessed with the traditional and modern gift list ideas.  I just think it's fun and gives me a way to narrow down what I want to get him.  We're not big expensive gift people, but we do small, sentimental stuff.  (Last year for paper I framed 4 maps, one for where each of us was born, one where we met, and one where we married).

I'm going with cotton, and I think I'm going to get a quote stitched onto cotton linen either for a handkerchief or to have framed.  I'll probably go with one of the readings from our wedding, or maybe one from my favorite book.

  • @consciousdear if DH loves baking, check out the Tartine Bread cookbook.  It's done by a very famous baker in SF, he's considered to be the best bread baker in the United States.  My dad loves to bake too and he loves that book.http://www.abebooks.com/Tartine-Bread-Chad-Robertson-Photographer-Eric-Wolfinger/9018589730/bd?cm_mmc=gmc-_-gmc-_-PLA-_-v01

  • *grumble* at the rate H is going he'll be lucky if I let him live til October.

That being said, I like new sheets or bedding idea.

We are going to Vegas and that's our gift to each other. I may still get him something small though. Last year we did paper. Well kind of. Sean gave me the receipt first of what he bought me. I gave him football game tickets for his college team.

I'll probably get him some clothes because he is always saying he needs more shirts.

  • I didn't know this year was cotton, thanks for letting me know!  I may do sheets since we're moving in the next month and getting a bigger bed.  Some new clothes could also be nice, especially since H needs a few new things.  I'll have to start thinking of suggestions to make for H to get me also.

Last year, for paper, I gave H a paper with 2 weekend away ideas.  H picked the one that he liked best.  He gave me tickets to see Pippin on Broadway.  It was amazing!
  • I think traditional is cotton, modern is china.  But china is obviously a lot easier with women's gifts, lol.

  • Is it bad that H and I can't remember what we got each other last year?  8-|  I know i made him homemade gnocchi from scratch in a tomato sauce made from garden tomatoes (yes, I am an attention whore).

  • Ok, I'm getting H 2 shirts he's mentioned wanting.

Last year I printed our vows, framed and they are on our night tables for paper.

  • @catwine it's okay, we don't remember either :-X I know we went one night to a local Greek restaurant, and another night PF Changs. I think we had some kind of tickets....haha. No idea what to, because it certainly wasn't around here!

  • No idea! We're not really into gift giving and usually go out to dinner for birthdays and buy something for the house for Christmas. This anniversary gift cannot live up to last year's trip to Italy!  I guarantee that there will be red velvet cake (that was the flavor of our wedding cake) : )

  • This is how much we suck at gifts - Jeff asked if he can get the shirts I wanted to get him.  I'm like ugh, yes happy anniversary.  He's like really?!  I'm like yea, the gift is suppose to be cotton.  So then he ordered me a new Eagles Jersey since all the ones I have have either retired or left the team.  We will be getting them a month early since he ordered them yesterday, but oh well.

I still hope I get a shower and nap.

  • I remembered what we did for gifts...I got him a new watch and he got me some new Pandora charms.  He is really hard to buy for so he usually makes a list of stuff he wants in general and I choose from there for each occasion.  I like the idea of giving him shirts but he probabl wouldn't like that very much.

  • For the sake of our mutual sanity, H and I don't exchange anniversary gifts. Last year he was having to work stupid amounts of overtime and had to seriously agitate just to get to spend the day with me, so I consider that a present in itself. Fortunately he's in a different work situation this year. But we'll probably still just do dinner and split a bottle of champagne like we did last year.

  • Last year I bought 1 stock of Krispy Kreme donuts and had it framed! My husband is into stocks and financey things( everyone's like do you really think 1 share is really gonna make money/ do anything- I say it was the thought behind it and the stock certificate is paper- lol) he didn't get me anything - we took a trip to niagra falls in canada and he thought that was going to be our present to each other!
