Block Party! (menu help, please!)

I'm entirely too excited about this.

We received an invite to a 'come meet your new neighbors' block party. In our new neighborhood, three other families moved into their houses around when we did, two more are being built now, and a bunch have been there for a while.

So, the houses in the cull-de-sac are throwing this block party!

Anyway. I have to being a treat to share.

The party is at the end of the month, so I'm thinking a fall treat would be best.

Recommend your favorite yummy (and easy to make) fall treats, please!

  • I make apple muffins every year after we go apple picking and they are ALWAYS a huge hit. This is pretty much the recipe I go off of. They don't need to be served warm so you wouldn't have to worry about a serving tray.

My other fall favorite is Jiffy Corn Casserole - it's better warm but people eat it no matter what.

  • Aw how fun!  It sounds like you moved into a really nice neighborhood.

I like to take chicken taquitos to things like that.  There are tons of recipes online, but I just bake and shred some boneless skiness chicken breast and mix it with some salsa, taco seasoning and shredded cheese.  Then I put a few tablespoons of the mixture into 8 inch flour tortillas (that I microwave between two damp paper towels for like 30 seconds to help make them easier to roll), roll it up and back them for about 15-20 minutes on 350 degrees until the tortilla becomes crispy and the mixture inside is hot.  They are yummy served hot or room temperature.  I usually take some salsa and queso for dipping.

  • I usually make Caprese Skewers for these things.

    You need
    -bamboo skewers
    -mozzarella balls
    -grape tomatoes
    -fresh basil

Put mozz balls, tomatoes, and basil leaf on skewer, and continue to alternate until skewer is "full" (however full you want it). Super, super, super easy. I drizzle them with EVOO and balsamic, too.

  • These recipes all sound amazing. I love making muffins and quick breads, so I would probably do that if it were me. I've been wanting to try pumpkin chocolate chip and chocolate chip zucchini, and I recently tried (and loved) peanut butter chocolate swirl banana bread. Also, chocolate should be a food group.

  • We did one of these 2 weekends ago. It was so fun. I brought a quinoa chicken salad but the real hit of the party were these chocolate coconut bar things. I don't even know who made them but they were so good!
