just got laid off today... : /

don't you hate it when mngmt is sitting there telling you how they 'will do anything they can to help me find another job'. All the while you know they are full of shit.

Re: just got laid off today... : /

  • Unfortunately, ethics and good old fashioned morals don't exist any more in the workplace.

Sorry to hear the news. Wishing you a short period of time out of work.
  • My old company did this as they were laying off people by the hundreds.  I was fortunate and got out before they made it to me.  However, their "help" was "Go to the internal job board and see what you can find."

  • So sorry to hear what happened!  I hope you will not be out of work long and that your next job is EVEN BETTER.

The job I had back when the economy first took a nosedive was definitely seeing client projects cancelled, postponed, etc.  And people were very worried.  They had this big kum-bi-yah (sp?) corporate meeting.  Assured everyone that they work hard to find the great employees they have and, although they were cutting back on some of the perks (ie no more free soda in the lunch room), they were in good shape and had no plans to lay anybody off.  AND one month later I was axed along with over 5% of their workforce in what was the first of MANY layoffs that happened over the next year.  No loyalty, my friends, no loyalty!

  • I'm sorry to hear that.  Good luck!

  • update: i already have an interview set up! (and it pays almost TWICE as much as the one i was laid off from!). I guess one door has to close completely before another one opens.
  • Hope the interview went well. :)
  • Lots of luck on the interview!!!

  • I was laid off 3 years ago, almost exactly.  It took the wind from my sails to say the least, but that being said, it was the best thing that ever happened to me.  I was miserable at the job, but the pay and perks kept me there.  Give yourself time to grieve the loss, pick yourself back up, and find the job that you love!

Be the change you want to see in the world!
