Happy Friday! What are you reading?

How do you like it so far? Is for any of the challenges or just fun? With only 2 weeks of summer left are you happy to see summer almost over and looking forward to fall or are you going to miss summer and wish it was longer?
Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:

Re: Happy Friday! What are you reading?

  • I started Fall of Giants.

Then I started Game of Thrones.

    Then I stopped both.

The Outlander re-read has ruined any chances of me reading an epic book for the rest of the year.
    75 Books in 2015?

    It's slippery as waterweed.
  • Listening to The Silkworm, reading Marina, kindle Born in Fire. All fine but BiF is kind of cheesy.

I'm not looking forward to the start of brutally cold weather & snow but I'd be fine if it were mild fall year-round. I love the season.

  • I am making good progress with Rant!
I am reading Fledgling on my kindle and listening to Wishes and Stitches. All are enjoyable.
  • I'm reading Shadow on the Crown.  I really like it so far.  I think I will get thought it pretty quickly.  I'm reading Orange is the New Black next.  It wasn't on my to read list but my SIL gave it to me to read so I'm going to give it a whirl.

  • Finally finished Book of Life.  Loved it!  I guess there will be a spin off series?

Started and almost finished with Big Little Lies.  It's absolutely ridiculous but somehow it works.  So far I'm enjoying it.  Good fluffy mindless read.

  • I am reading The Pillars of the Earth, Burned by Sara Shepard and The One and Only by Emily Giffin.

  • I'm reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. I'm enjoying it. It's #47 for the year.

I'm looking forward to fall. I'm not a fan of the heat, and in NE Ohio, when it gets hot, it gets humid, which i also can't stand. So I'm definitely looking forward to fall. It's actually my favorite season!

  • I'm listening to The Book of Life right now.  It's the best of the three so far but Diana still drives me nuts sometimes.

    My favorite Cake Wreck ever.

  • I reading Of Poseidon by Anna Banks and Falling Into You by Jasinda Wilder. I thought that I would enjoy Falling Into You more, but it is just kind of meh for me. I am liking Of Poseidon though.

I love Summer and want it to last longer. My dog is high energy and I am not looking forward to him being cooped up in the house more when the weather gets cold. If we don't wear him out outside, he gets rather destructive when indoors.

  • I'm reading How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff. I'm about halfway in and I'm not sure I quite get what is happening  yet, but I'm enjoying it.

I'm listening to Skeletons at the Feast by Chris Bohjalian. It is keeping my attention.

  • I'm reading Dad is Fat by Jim Gaffigan- It is pretty good, I just have a hard time finding a good chunk of time to read it. #30

Also reading Harvest by Tess Gerritsen- I am only 1 chapter in so I cannot give an adequate review, but I have yet to find a book of hers that I did not love. #31

I am hoping fall gets here sooner rather than later. I don't like the summer heat, but I despise the winter cold.

  • (re) reading: Dance Upon Air by NR

    Listening to: HP HBP

  • I'm nearly done with Nantucket Nights by Elin Hilderbrand. It is taking forever to read lately. I probably just need to reread favorites after this. I was approved to sit for the national licensure exam and I doubt I'll be able to read a whole lot since I have to really start studying now. But at least I can binge read whatever I want after I (pretty, pretty, pretty please) pass!

I am ready for fall. It's my favorite season and it's too hot here. It'll be nice to have some chilly mornings/evenings and be able to make more soups and stews.

  • Whiteout by Ken Follett.  It's a nice little novel.  He's such a good writer, I was completely hooked from the minute I picked it up.  It's number 34 for the year.

I wish it was summer all the time and I could always be at the beach.  But the end of summer also means the end of this pregnancy, and God knows I'm ready for that!

  • I am reading _The Promise_ by Lesley Pearse.  (The sequel to _Belle_ - about a girl growing up in her mother's brothel -- and her life in the years after.)

Pearse writes interesting stories!  Her books always rate well on GR.  (This is my third by her.)
    Daisypath Happy Birthday tickers

  • Listening in the car to Lord of Chaos (Book 6 of the Wheel of Time series), by Robert Jordan.  I finally finished book 5!
Reading Representations of Slavery for the class I am teaching.  We'll talk about it at the end of the month, but I have to read slowly to make lecture notes. I'm also refreshing myself on the material in Mickey Mouse History for week after next.
Rereading Outlander just for fun.  I only really get to read for fun a little bit each day if at all, so I thought a reread would be pleasant and I can read a handful of pages here and there to maintain my sanity when the school stuff wears on me.

I'm reading Isla and the Happily Ever After and loving it. I also just started Trying Texas by Tera Lynn Childs and it's just what I needed to get me out of my grumpy mood the past few days. It's chick lit, which I haven't read in forever, but with all of the fun and none of the whininess and Prada/fancy shoe obsession that made me roll my eyes in some of the chick lit I used to read. The voice of the main character is snarky and awesome.

I'm also about halfway through listening to Stormfront by Jim Butcher, the first book in the Dresden Files series and I love it. The writing is great. I can't help but love Harry and his dead pan, matter of fact tone about all of the crazy shit happening around him. I highly recommend this for anyone who likes fantasy and paranormal. I'm going to have to check out the TV show too after I finish. I watched the first episode a while back, but I don't have a strong memory of it.

I'm at 53 for the year so far.

Fall could not come too soon. I'll be so glad to have cooler temperatures and get to wear scarves and sweaters again. Walking around campus sweating all over the place can suck it.

  • I'm reading Alienated. It's #33 for the year. I am not ready for summer to end as much as I do like fall.

I've listened to the first three or four of that series and you're right.  It's so much fun.

  • I'm listening to The Wedding Gift by Marlen Suyapa Bodden.  I like it so far!  A historical novel that addresses the subjugation of women (black and white) in the pre-Civil War American South.

Just started reading Half the Sky:Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Wolrdwide by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn.

Wow - I'm really into gender studies right now I guess!

I stand corrected.  I finished Big Little Lies last night.  It started out silly and frivolous but didn't stay that way.  Lots of heavy topics to think about.  Loved it.  I had a hard time putting this one down.

  • @84Lauren what do you think of that book? I found it randomly for a challenge and was surprised by how much I enjoyed the book. I am currently waiting for my library to receive the third book.
