MM Confessions

OK I have a confession to make... H and I signed up for cable.  I know!  I swore I didn't need it!  But H really REALLY wanted to be able to watch sports, and he got a deal for $56/month for two years.  I'll admit, I've totally been hooked to HGTV this past week.  I'm making up for all those years where I was cable-less.

Hopefully the MM gods won't strike me down.

Do you have a MM confession to make?

That sounds like a good deal on cable.

H and I were Cable free for 2 years and then had an opportunity to add baisc channels for less than $10 a month...so we've been paying for it.  Honestly there are weeks I don't even turn it on, but when there are big news stories it's nice to know I can turn it on rather than continually refreshing CNN.

Here's my MM confession....since this is really like throwing $$ out the window...about once a week I get lazy and don't pack my lunch for work and drop $6-10 at the deli in the hospital I work in (albiet the sandwiches are GOOD)

  • We definitely miss having real TV.  I'm not going to lie one bit about that. Especially HGTV.  I could spend hours watching it.

My confession is that I have a separate account for my business.  H never looks at it and has no idea how much is in it.  If there's something that I really want, then I will use a little bit of my commissions to buy it before we transfer it over at the end of the month.  I've only done this twice, and have told him about it.  But it's unbudgeted  money that could have gone toward debt.  It's also only been about $50 total since we started TMM.

  • I have cable too.  We didn't have it for a couple of years and I fought not to have it because I swore I didn't need it, but it's just so nice to have!

I'm dying to spend some money eating out even though we budgeted for a lean September.  Ugh!

My MM confession is that we just paid off our cruise for next May to the tune of $1300 for the week. We are trying to pay down our underwater mortgage by spring (thus the second job)as well as add little more to our house DP( which won't be 20%), and we haven't yet opened up Roth's for ourselves (we do have 401K's, but are waiting on the ROTH until after we buy a house), but guess what? I don't care!! YOLO!! We are in good financial standing otherwise.

  • Mine is so, so dumb....

I have a $10/month Planet Fitness membership I haven't used in over a year. I keep putting off cancelling cause you have to do it in person and it's awkward.

worse! H and I signed-up for an annual gym membership last sumer ($1030 total) I can honestly say there were months when I didn't go at all, definitely more on H's part.  there were months that we did go regularly...but I don't think we went enough in the year to justify the expense. It's been 2 months since our membership expired I only miss the weight room, but I don't think I could find time in my schedule to go lift more than once a week, so even that would be a waste. we'll see how I'm feeling mid-winter, even then we're going with pay-as-you go monthly memberships (now $67/month per-person insead of $521/year per-person).

    This made me laugh :)

H insist on joining the Y now that we no longer have the (free) gym at our apartment.  There's a Y about 2 blocks from both of our workplaces.  There's also a Y half a mile from the new house.  We'd be able to visit both with the same membership.

I predict we join but feel too lazy to ever go.

NO! that's my pet peeve.  We paid $10 for a year for DH to go to active family fitness and I was sick of him not going and yet we pay for it so just this last May I went in with him to cancel.  It's not awkward.  All they want to know is why you are canceling.  His was for lack of use and mine was for yoga.

My confession - I got a mani and pedi last week and don't feel bad about it :)

Ok, I'll do it this month, I swear.
  • My confession is that between outings and other "wants" this year I haven't been able to keep our one account for this stuff as high as I would like.  Hopefully my wife gets a pay raise and then with both of our increases we will do better.
  • MM confession. I spent $22 out of budget on Vodka this week. If I can keep Hs hands off of it it will last me till thanksgiving since I don't drink often. I had to scold myself before the purchase but it still didn't stop me from wanting it. Haha.

Once we reach our goals we'll likely hop back on the cable TV wagon. This is our first football season without cable....

  • My MM confession is I spent $86 on Victoria's Secret credit card last week because I had only 2 bras that fit me and my dog keeps eating my underwear. I know I could shop cheaper, but I just love their stuff... I've already adjusted my budget to pay it off next pay.

I also didn't take cash out for my allowance for these 2 weeks, so I've spent way too much too quickly. :(

Do you get their coupons?  I get a free panty coupon at least once a month, and often more than that.  If you don't you should try and get on their mailing list!!

  • I have so many MM confessions I hardly know where to start!  Travel is definitely our biggest one:

This past May, we super-splurged on a two-week vacation in Hawaii for our 5-year anniversary.  Total cost was about $12K.  Yes, you read that right.

I saved for the trip for two years and we did not go into debt for it at all, so I don't feel one bit guilty.  Even though I know we could have done a LOT of other things with that money, we had an absolutely amazing time and if lightning was to strike us down tomorrow, I'd rather cherish the memories of that trip than have a few more home improvement projects done or more money in savings.

  • @als1982 Yep! I get the coupons.. I didn't have one for this trip, but they were running 7/$25 on underwear and I got the 2/$50 bras so that wasn't too bad! I did splurge and get a $10 bathing suit top too that was originally $50.
  • We booked a Disney trip for February. Yes, we could have used that money to further build our EF but I am so excited! It's our family happy place! We did get 50 percent off our hotel rate so it's a cheaper trip for us!
  • I have a pre-confession.  I am having thoughts of spending $350 for 2 living room lamps.  I've looked high and low for something I'd like, but can't find anything.  The next closest thing I like is a Pottery Barn lamp that is $200 each with NO lampshade!  So I feel like I'm doing better, but it pains me to spend over $100 a lamp.  Heck, I got beautiful lamps for the family room for $60/each.
  • I fell in love with clothes at Janie and Jack for the baby whose not here yet and its all I can do not to spend money that I don't have currently on baby clothes when both grandmas have filled the closet and friends' hand me downs have filled the dresser.

  • @MissN06‌ if you feel you need to buy some Janie and jack- go on eBay. You won't believe how much you will find there in good condition at much better prices than the stores. I was never really into that brand, I think they are cute but ultimately not worth it, but try that if you feel you need some more ;)
