Soooo.... apparently I am shit at titles and so my publisher has renamed all of my manuscripts. We're on the third book now and can't find any common ground. Time is ticking here and we need something soon. I thought you girls–having seen thousands of titles–might be able to give me some insight into what is working and what is not.

If you are willing, please tell me your favorite(s) or let me know which ones are DEFINITE no's. My brain is so fried and I think having some objective eyes on these may help see things clearer.

Simple synopsis:
Taylor Hudson is bored of her privileged life. She doesn’t believe in love, but knows that lust is undeniable when a mysterious new employee appears in her mansion.

As the new handyman at the Hudson home, Levi is the inside man on a job to steal $15 million from one of Southern California’s wealthiest families.

It’s the last summer of absentee parents and West Coast living, and Taylor is desperate to conquer Levi in a wicked game of seduction. Now, Levi must decide–give in or use her as a pawn in his own dangerous game.

Re: Title Nightmare

  • I really like the title Seducing Trouble!
  • Edited bc the list was all weird.

  • Defy the Stars and Duplicitious catch my attention, followed by Cruel Summer. One of my pet peeves are names of books and movies that are cliches or common sayings because I always forget them (what's that new Diane Keaton movie? And So it Goes? Blech.) They don't stand out. I'd go for something original and different, which people are more likely to remember.
My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.

  • Lies We Told <-- I like this, but it sounds a bit generic
What It’s Worth <-- Ehhhh...doesn't have the OOMPH
Misery Business <-- Love this! (Because I love the song)
Seducing Trouble <-- Sounds more like a category romance to me
Defy the Stars <-- Makes me think of fantasy/sci-fi
All She Knows <-- Doesn't sound like a romance
Priceless Lies <-- Looks like Princess Leia at first glance (to me, anyway)
    Turning Tables <-- Meh
    If I Knew <-- Meh
    Dirty Work <-- Ehhhhh
    Duplicitous <-- I like this
    Sweet Deception <-- Sounds generic
    Strongest Weakness <-- Meh
    Hold On Tight <-- Meh
Harden My Heart <-- Gets the song stuck in my head
Cruel Summer <-- Gets the song stuck in my head
    See Through Me <-- Ehhhh
    Sweet Deceit <-- Too rhymey
    The Perfect Liar <-- Ehhh
    Foolish Game <-- Ehhh
    Dirty Little Lies <-- Ehhh
    In the Dark <-- Meh
    At What Price <-- Meh
    More Than Words <-- Meh
Take All of Me <-- Meh

The ones I said "meh" about don't really capture the heart of the story to me. I think I like Misery Business the best, but that might be because of the song. I like that it's a song name without it being the chorus of the song, like some of these other titles.

I think you should have something that captures the lying/tricky part of the story. A lot of these sound like generic romance or not romance at all. The "Ehhh" ones are close, but they are missing that something special that would jump off a shelf to me.

  • Is this another NA book? If so, I like Sweet Deception the best. It has the same kind of feel as Beautiful Addictions so it sounds like it fits in/ keeps continuity with the other titles you're writing.

I like Defy the Stars too, but it sounds more women's fiction/ general fictiony to me.
