Cards

What did you do with the cards from the wedding, bridal shower, if you had one, baby shower?  I still have all of them and H always makes fun of me and tells me that I'm a hoarded.  I am starting to declutter to prepare for the move and I want to get rid of as much unnecessary stuff as possible.

Re: Cards

  • I think we kept them and put them in a box in the basement. I have a hard time getting rid of cards. I got rid of a card that my grandmother sent me once, and it was the last card she ever gave me. I regret that (it had a personal note inside).

  •  I saved all mine and probably will forever.  Partly because I'm sentimental and partly so I remember who gave us what if we are asked about it.

This.  I put my bridal shower and wedding cards in a box with other wedding memos in the basement.  Right now I have my baby shower cards in a drawer, but I got a card box to put them in and will add other things I don't wanna throw away.

@willyh19 - I'm so sorry I'd be so upset too.  I try to keep all cards too, because you don't know when it'll be the last one.

  • I think I had them in a bag for like a year.  Then they went in the recycling bin I think.  They might still be in a bag, not really sure.
  • I know that the wedding cards are in a box in a closet. I'm not sure where the bridal shower cards are or if I still have them. I don't know why I keep them, I'm probably not going to look at them again...part of me can't throw them away though.

  • Honestly, we didn't get very many cards for our wedding or at my shower.  I threw them all away because most of them were just signed and didn't have any sentimental value.

I do, however, keep the cards my parents give me for my birthday.  My mom always hand makes me a card and my dad writes something that makes me cry.  They're packed away right now, but I usually have them displayed with my jewelry or on my vanity.

  • I usually throw everything away, but I keep cards.  I have a pretty box from a craft store that I keep them in.  Wedding cards are in the giant wedding tub in our guest closet.  I really need to go through that thing next month...

  • I got rid of mine. Too much clutter. :P

  • @WillyH19 I always save my cards from my grandma until I get the next one for that reason.

I may just save the ones from our parents and grandparents and get rid of the rest.  Like @pockysquirrel said, too much clutter.
  • I still have all ours. I thought of making one of those little booklets by binding them all together with string, but I don't know.

  • All of our wedding cards are still in the box that we had them in at the reception. It's in the storage room at our house.

I have a box for each occaision. I am kind of a hoarder (not like on the show or like DH's dad...no newspaper walls here!) So about 5 years ago I started a system. I get a box a year (at like michaels or something so they're pretty! they're 3-4 $) and I leave it on my dresser and put all the random stuff in it I want to keep, cards,  ticket stubs, dried flowers, mini golf scores etc. I get an extra one for momentous occaisions that are bigger. I have one for our engagement, our wedding day, and for this pregnancy. It works pretty well, and I don't feel too bad b/c I just put them in the basement closet and they don't take up that much room. Since most aren't full, I'll probably consolidate the regular yearly ones every 5 years or something?

ETA- my grandma still has the ones from her baby shower in 1949, and from when she had my mom in 1955, and they are amazing and  I LOVE THEM. She's not even that sentimental, so it was pretty cool when we found them!

  • I have my cards in boxes ( not organized) in the basement. I even have a big Rubbermaid box filled with childhood stuff and it's half cards! I save everything!
  • @linnae939 are you talking about the photo boxes?  I used to buy them in college and do that.  It;s not a bad idea and those boxes really don't take up a lot of space.
  • @linnae939 That's like the box I have!  It's actually used as decoration in our guest room, so it's functional storage :)

  • Yeah, the yearly ones are just photo boxes, I get a new pattern (sometimes shape size depending on sales at michaels) every year. so at elast my junk is thrown in a pretty box instead of collecting in piles on my dresser like it used to! The big event ones are more like hat boxes. Though I have never had a hat that would need to be stored in a box. haha
