Outlander Episode 6 Spoilers

OMG the episode this weekend was so intense.  Tobias Menzies plays the PERFECT Jack Randall.  He really is a monster.  I loved the flashback of Claire shaving Frank with the same blade.  I couldn't watch all of the episode the first time around because the flogging scene was just too horrifying.  I am very squeamish and seeing the skin on his back just hanging there was way too much for me.  I did end up watching it a second time and could actually watch and really hear what was going on, but man was it rough.  I remember thinking that Capt Jack was only going to get worse and now I'm nervous for what else he has in store for us later on down the road.

I thought the end was absolute perfection and rewatched the scene with Jamie and Claire about 15 times.  I remember when I got to the part in the books where we find out that Jamie was a virgin and I sent SnShne an email at midnight losing my mind over all of it.  And next week??  I seriously cannot wait for the wedding and everything that comes along with it.  I've seen several people on tumblr breaking down the fast parts from the preview for next week and it sends me into this crazy place of fangirling that I didn't know was even in me.

Oh, and Dougal is great too.  I think the casting has been spectacular.

I really love this series so far.  I didn't know what to expect, but I think it has been perfect and I can't wait for more!

AND they announced that Season 2 is going to follow Dragonfly in Amber through both time periods.  I don't know that I can handle it!  The end of that book was so heart breaking.

Re: Outlander Episode 6 Spoilers

  • OMG this episode didn't follow exactly, but I LOVED it.

I don't think he makes a fantastic Frank, but wow, he does BJR justice.  I closed my eyes for most of the flogging scene.  I think it was important that it was there, but I just couldn't watch it.

But wait, how many episodes are there?  The preview said there was only two more.  I thought there was 16? Is says 2015 for the the second half.  I would really hate it if there were only 8 episodes.  That's short, even by premium channel standards!

  • Oh man.  I don't know if I have the energy to type out everything I've already texted to @84lauren and @elistar.

I'm still saying I didn't like the scene between Jamie and Claire.  That's not show I pictured Jamie in that scene.

    It's slippery as waterweed.
  • It helps that I didn't recently reread Outlander, because the changes and differences don't bother me much.  Most of the time I don't realize it until much later.  I also really like reading Ronald Moore's tweets and posts after episodes air because he goes into details as to why they changed certain aspects in the show.  I want to listen to his podcasts too.

Who told Claire about the details of the flogging in the book?  Was it Dougal? I don't remember.

I think they are splitting the first season up and there are only 2 left in 2014.  Then the rest will follow in 2015 and Season 2 will be after that, although I have no clue when.

It's not how I pictured it either, but I still loved it.  Probably because of what is coming next!

Yes, I think Dougel tells her at the Liar's Spring.

I didn't mind most of the changes and I think I liked the changes they made in Claire and Jamie's scene. I hope they don't change that she's drunk as a skunk in the next episode.  I love her drunk conversation with the fly.

  • I liked the second half of this one. The first half was long, and boring, and pointlessly added scenes. Why are they drawing this out??? The scene with Randall took barely 10 pages in the (900 page) book! If they would have gotten the fuck on with it they could break at the standing stones instead of the wedding, but no, and now the second half of the season is going to be way rushed.

I hate that Dougal was basically compelled to be there, that doesn't make SENSE that he can then just walk away with Claire. But whatever. I didn't mind that they had Randall tell Claire instead of Dougal, it worked.

Also, there was a guy slightly behind Dougal at the flashback that they showed several times, that I thought they might make Brian? But he was not at ALL right physically, so I'm hoping not.

I did like the J/C scene, they did it as well as can be expected without Claire's internal dialogue. And the scene where C storms past Dougal and swipes the whiskey was priceless.

I'm nervous for the wedding... I hope it lives up to everyone's wild expectations ;)

  • According to DG this is him @84Lauren

    image
  • And by this I mean the guy on the left of Dougal. And by him I mean Black Brian.
  • @84Lauren @fabk yep, it is Brian.

  • Hm, that screenshot isn't so bad, I thought he was a lot goofier looking when I just saw him quickly during the show.

  • I was looking for Brian during the scene but didn't realize it was that guy until DG posted that picture. I thought they might show more of his reaction, maybe a facial droop or something (didn't he have a stroke?)
I am loving the interaction between Jamie and Claire! I am super excited for the wedding. I think there are 10 more episodes this season, 2 more before the break.
DH isn't loving the show. He asked me if I would enjoy it as much if I didn't know the characters and I'm not sure I would. I tried to turn this into a good reason for him to read the books but he wasn't feeling that.

  • I thought he had the stroke while or shortly after that scene.

Brian has a stroke during that scene when he thinks that Jamie is basically dead.  He doesn't die until they get him back to Lallybroch.

  • I'm loving the show. I am really bad at remembering details from books I read a long time ago, so the changes aren't bothering me at all. I'm bummed there are only two episodes left, I don't want to wait until winter!

One of my wine buddies is watching the series, and he is enjoying it so far. He hasn't read the books, but that hasn't seemed to lessen his enjoyment so far.

  • My husband has been getting bored with certain parts of every episode, but overall seems to be liking it.

Or maybe he just knows what's good for him and is keeping his mouth shut.
