Introducing...

One week ago, our baby girl finally made her arrival!!

Fiona Elise was born at 2:17 p.m. on September 9 after 35 hours of labor. She was 7 lbs 6 oz and 21.5".

I don't know when I'll feel more pulled together to post regularly; right now it's just about making it through each day (and harder still, each night!). We're trying really hard to BF, which is proving a lot more difficult than I ever expected. But Fiona is eating well when she gets on and my milk came in just fine. So hopefully it's just a matter of time before she actually stays awake to eat and latching isn't such a struggle.

I miss you ladies!! I hope everyone is doing well and I can catch up soon. <3

  • Congrats! Love the name! BF is really hard, but I'm glad to hear your milk is in and she eats well while latched. Ben took up to 45 minutes to latch in the early days and it can be so frustrating. You're hungry, silly! Just eat! I found a nipple shield to be helpful (though not a magical solution), but I know others didn't like it.

  • Congratulations!!! She is beautiful! And I love her name. Good luck with the next few weeks and BF. I have no experience to help but definitely have been thinking about you!
  • Beautiful name for a beautiful baby! Congrats to you! And good luck with the breast feeding...it's tough but make sure you have a good support network around you to keep cheering you on because it really helps - I'm sure you'll be fine though. I've been struggling just because of the nature of how my baby came early, the delivery, etc but I'm fully committed to breast feeding or in the very least pumping so Violet gets only milk from me...having supportive people really helps ;)
  • Hello beautiful little Fiona! Congrats to mommy and daddy!

Here comes 2u2! Team Green to Team Blue! Baby L born
  • Thanks everyone! I need to look into local LLL resources, and I've seen an LC. We've got a ped appt tomorrow, so hopefully she has a good weigh in to reassure us she's getting what she needs even when it doesn't seem that way.

I've had my meltdowns over it (and I'm sure I'll have more), but at least today was mostly good.

Stay strong Lucky! My SIL had the same issues with her first born but it just took time. She had to find what position her was most comfortable latching in. She used pillows, sat reclined, straight, etc it ended up he needed to be laying parallel on a bed with her in order for him to latch well. That was just his thing!
    Good luck honey!

Meltdowns are normal - on top of giving birth, you have a whole ball of hormonal emotions right now. One of my girlfriends said it took her son almost 2 months to really get the hang of nursing but now he nurses like a champ. And unless Fiona is losing weight, don't let the doctor poo poo you into giving formula. Some doctors tend to push that as the first/only option. Obviously, it's there if you really need it, but if you are committed to BF, just keep at it. Just try to be patient (especially during growth spurts) and know it will work out in the end.

This is what we're currently dealing with....Violet is eating like every hour right now - of course in the middle of the night lol
