Hypothyroidism

I got blood work done on CD3 because I suspected that I might have low progesterone. The nurse called with my results yesterday and told me that all of my levels were normal except my TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone). She said it was waaaay up. She said I have hypothyroidism. I started Synthroid this morning. Part of me is a bit relieved because I'm thinking that maybe this is the missing puzzle piece that could help me conceive. The other part of me is just frustrated because I feel like I just keep adding more and more things to the list of things wrong with me and I don't seem to be getting any better.

I've been researching hypothyroidism and its affect on fertility this morning. I understand that it can affect different areas of fertility (such as ovulation and LP length) but I can't find anything that specifically explains how it affects it.

Are there any ladies here with hypothyroidism that could maybe explain to me exactly how it affects ovulation?

I have hypothyroidism and I don't really know how it affects it, but it does. The Synthroid, when it was at the right dosage really helped me with overall energy. Good luck!

Ditto to what Bruins said. I got put on synthroid as soon as I visited the RE for the first time. I don't know the science behind it, just that they didn't want my thyroid to be overworking itself, especially during a pregnancy, which was the ultimate outcome.

I'm by no means a MD, but I've done a bit of thyroid research. Four women in my family have thyroid disease, and I'm actually having my TSH drawn today. My understanding is that the thyroid is connected to a lot of the hormones in the body, so it affects all different areas. I suspect if your hormones are off because of your thyroid, your body might not know it's time to ovulate.

What the girls said but my RE also said that they wanted my levels evened out because elevated thyroid could possibly lead to MC especially with IVF

I wasn't the high of the high but I was a roller coaster of levels

Thanks for the input, ladies! From what I've been reading, the thyroid controls so much stuff...it's kinda scary.

To be honest, I'm not surprised they want to put me on sythroid now. When I got my blood work done last October, my TSH was already on the high side of normal. For right now, my doctor has me on 50mg. They called me in a 60 day prescription. When I get down to about 14 pills, I'm supposed to call them and get blood work scheduled so we can see where my TSH is at then.

I have my ultra-sound on the 25th so I will ask them about abstaining from TTC until my levels are better when I go in for that. Although, I'm not ovulating regularly so the chances of me conceiving anytime soon aren't high anyway.

@OohSparkly13‌ it is a bit freaky how much the thyroid controls, especially since so few people know where it is. (My SIL: "You mean they have to cut into my THROAT?!" when she realized hers was so bad it had to be removed.)

I hope they can figure out the right dosage for you. ((Hugs))

It should be fine... And you will be shocked at how great you feel

also synthroif brought mine way way down immediately and it's been at a RE deemed therapeutic level lately so I'm pleased

I've been on the Synthroid for a few days now and it might just be my imagination but I do feel like my energy has been up a bit already!
