  • When I was 20 I was all freaked out by my friends getting married, settling down, buying houses and starting to pop out babies. I freaked out and on a whim moved to China 'for a year of adventure', going the long distance route with my boyfriend. 4 months into my trip he surprised me by buying himself a ticket to join me... one-way. We've never looked back.

  • When my husband and I met, we lived in separate states. He's from Ohio and I'm from Minnesota (where we both live now). When he finally moved in with me in 2010, we hadn't seen each other in seven months. He had started teasing me about a surprise he was preparing about three months before he moved in.

When he finally got here, after our hugs and kisses and shared excitement to finally be together again (and permanently this time), he jumped up and put a CD in my stereo. It turns out he had recorded himself singing/playing Minnesota Girl by Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day (whose wife is from Minnesota). The song isn't on any professional CD--the only recordings of it are fan cam recordings from shows and apparently a recording that's from his wife's answering machine. Now I have a recording of it by my husband.

He re-recorded it for our wedding and we used that for our first dance at the reception. =)
  • He cooked breakfast and brought it to bed for me just the other day, that was definitely romantic because he really doesn't like cooking.
  • I was busy making a gift for my cousin's shower gift and stayed up until 4 in the morning finishing it with my mom. When I got back home, he had cleaned the house, had a steak supper ready for me and even took time to make the bed really good (usually it's just a mess when he does it). I'm definitely the cleaner and cook so it was really nice that he stepped up and did that for me when I was low on sleep :)
  • He has been a rock star since we've been married and I honestly think the most romantic thing he does is listening to me and remembering random things that would not naturally occur to him to do. Like surprising me on our last anniversary with a weekend away full of theater shows and my childhood memories, although he dislikes theater and doesn't prefer surprises either.

But as far as other good stuff....when we were LD dating I drove fourteen hours to visit him at his home. I was driving my old car w/ no air conditioning and it was July. I hadn't seen him in months. When I got there exhausted and tired, he had made me a huge plate of chilled chocolate covered strawberries, literally had the silver service out full of ice and damp towels to cool me off, chilled sparkling cider, and music playing. It was a little over the top, in the absolute best way possible! :)
