The Beautiful Ashes (spoiler edition)

@Lauren620

Here's some highlights:

1) I think if Ivy was just 2 or 3 years older I would have liked her SO MUCH MORE.  She's too young, and he's too flaky.

2) So much lust, not enough delivery.  They didn't have sex right? If they did, it obviously didn't leave an impression on me.

3) I didn't give two shits about her sister.  I just wanted her to leave her there.

4) I was creeped out when she was disguised as the hell hound doggy thing and they were all steamy.  I just couldn't get past it.

5) I am interested in Zack a bit.  He could me a much better character than he is right now.

Re: The Beautiful Ashes (spoiler edition)

  • 1) I agree it could have been different if she was a little older.  But then I think about how young Cat was at the beginning of Night Huntress and she wasn't nearly that bad.  I didn't like Ivy.

    2) They did not have sex.  They started to in the car, but then Ivy told Adrian she was a virgin and he broke the window and got out. WTF?
    3) Yeah, I didn't care about her sister at all.  Her character added nothing to the story except for an excuse for Ivy to go looking for her.  It was really poorly executed.
    5) I think Zack could be interesting, but I can't get past all of the biblical references and I feel like it could get really weird with him if he gets more involved.

    How about when Adrian CHOKED Ivy to scare her into finding the hallowed ground?  That part bothered me, a lot.  He seemed very aggressive and Ivy would talk about being scared of him and turn right into lusting after him.  Gross.

  • Maybe it's my lack of religious background, but I didn't pay too much attention to the religious aspects.  Maybe I would have if I was more familiar?

    Adrian has many abusive tendencies.  This happened in another series I just read and I while it was discussed it detail after, it just sits in the back of my head when I think of the characters together.  I don't think it will be easy to get over with Ivy and Adrian.

    I just kind of wish I could ask JF what the hell (ha ha, see what I did there?) she was thinking.  The story had potential, but I think if fell flat with too much confusing world building and not enough time on reliable characters.

  • It really did have potential, but the characters are awful.  I didn't find much of anything redeeming in any of them.

    I need to just go back to the Night Huntress and move on along.
