WIA(re)R - The Raven Boys (not really spoilers, IMO. But maybe?) (ok, now there are spoilers.)

I had such a book hangover from reading BL, LB that I had to re-read the series. I got the audio of book 2, which I can't wait for (RO-NANNNN), but I'm reading the hard copy of book 1.

I laughed so hard at Blue & Gansey's first meeting. I totally forgot how ridiculous it was.

Also, I'm loving all the descriptions of prickly, hostile Ronan. "His tie was knotted with a method best described as contempt..." "...he was worried that one day someone would fall on Ronan and cut themselves." "Declan's wide jaw and smile said, Vote for me while Ronan's buzzed head and thin mouth warned that this species was poisonous."

I love going back and seeing the evolution of all of these characters.

  • I might have to reread these before Blue Lily, Lily Blue.  I loved my reread of The Raven Boys after I finished The Dream Thieves because Maggie leaves us so many little gems along the way that are even better when you can connect them to things that happen later on.

I am still so jealous that you've already read the next book!

YES! I've already found so many wonderful little things already, and I'm only 100 pages in! I bet I will need to do this again after the last book, and I already know it will be very rewarding.

It's on NetGalley! Are you on there?

I am, but I haven't blogged or been active in forever.  So I doubt they would approve it and that would be devastating lol

Oh my gosh, I love the way Maggie Steifvater describes her characters. I adore this quote. I think right after she also says something like if his car had been sharklike it had learned how from Ronan. So apt and perfect.

Whenever I re-read or re-listen to these books it sort of ruins me for other books for a while.

I also loved going back and finding little things like this that are so subtle, but hint at things to come:
    Ronan: "I'm always straight."
Adam: "Man, that's the biggest lie you've ever told."

The latin bit I translated is an interaction between Ronan and Whelk. Whelk points out how big Ronan's bag is and Ronan says you know what they say about the size of a guy's bag and then says something in Latin that Gansey can't understand. I looked it up, and he says to Whelk "if you show me yours then I'll show you mine."

  • I love Ronan.  DH won't let me name our son Ronan, but that name is at the top of my list.

Something about this series, though.  I always felt like I didn't quite understand what all was going on, but I also couldn't stop listening (I listened to both books).  The narrator for the audiobooks is both kind of annoying and also completely, completely perfect.  I can't handle his Persephone voice, but he has the perfect slow southern drawl for the boys.

I'm looking forward to BL, LB for sure.

Ok, this post has totally devolved into spoilers. Sorry not sorry.

I LOLed so hard at the fact that Noah just admits straight out like 3 times that he is dead/a ghost. I remember being surprised when they find his body/find out, but he seriously introduces himself to people by saying "I've been dead for 7 years." HAHAHA.

As soon as I heard this line I remembered that old saying: if someone tells you who they are, believe them. I was totally on to him from then.

  • More spoilers...

Also did you catch the line where Ronan is picking at the scabs on his wrists and it says he would have picked at Adam's too if he would've let him? HA!

Yes! I think I actually said "STOP IT" out loud when I read that part.

I want these two to make out so bad I can hardly stand it.

  • Ok, I just finished. WHEW. My emotions!

It's crazy...there's some stuff at the end of this book that is SUPER RELEVANT to book 3. Like...A LOT.

I'm amazed at the detail in this book and the clues. Blows my mind.

I have book 2 on audio, but I might break down and read it. I don't do well with audio because I read so much faster, and I know I'm just going to want all the Ronan. We'll see.

But I need MOAR HENRIETTA NAO.

  • Sometimes I like the audio versions, especially for this series, because it forces me to slow down and hear all the details.  Even if I don't intended to, I get so excited reading that I might blow through and miss things.  I did read them first and listened on audio for rereads.
