S/O Christmas....

I've seen all of the 99 days until posts, and it just makes me tired thinking about Christmas.  (Busy for everyone I know, but extra busy for us church people!!!)  Plus the fact that I'll be 36-ish weeks pregnant when it rolls around reminds me that I should get a move on.

The trouble is I have NO ideas....not for family, nor S, nor DH.

We don't usually go crazy for Christmas.  I like getting DS about 3 things from Santa, and then a few things (clothes, jammies, etc.) from DH and I...I just have NO idea what to get.

So, what is on your 3 year old Christmas lists this year?  What about for DH and extended family?  I don't mind buying slightly ahead toy wise...and I'd like to avoid major furniture toys.  We already have a grill, and a workbench and an easel ...and MIL seems insistent on buying a table and chairs, even though I have tried to dissuade that.  (S really likes being where we are...I think he's a few years away from independent work at a his own table yet...)   But, I'd like some ideas.

Re: S/O Christmas....

  • The thought of Christmas this year is overwhelming to me too Dena, I have no idea if I will be on any restrictions by then (or dealing with babies in the NICU).  SO yea.  I feel like I should get my shopping done now and have it ready to go.

I think we got EJ a few board games when she was 3... perhaps candy land and memory.  That may have also been the year for the leap pad or the little leap pad jr reader thing. My ILs got her a giant pink unicorn. Or maybe that was her 4 y/o christmas. so you could always put that on your list...
    :))
  • I was also going to suggest a Leap Pad if he doesn't already have one.  We got Liam one last year for Christmas (he was a few months shy of 3 at that point) and he was able to do a lot of the games, and still uses it frequently (it's especially great for car trips!)

  • Ahh...FIL got S the Leap Pad last year!  (I could always get games for it, I suppose....but I'm not sure he'd really understand what they were....)

And, the unicorn sounds like it's right up there with the Toddler Drum Set that MIL got S last year....the pedal broke and we pitched them just a few weeks ago....sad....(not really!)image
  • I have banned any and all drums sets from our house!!  I'm not sure my sanity could handle it.

they have some games that are geared toward the younger crowd...Liam is a big fan of the Doc McStuffins game :)  there's also a sesame street one that he's able to play by himself.

  • I think we got dd the Fisher Price digital camera for her 3rd birthday.  It's still used by both kids pretty regularly.  It's so funny to look at the pictures they take from their level.  Random crotch shots and such.

  • Age 3 is when Jude started getting into action figures.  He started with some of the Rescue Heroes which are great toys.  The one I really recommend is the Imaginext castle.  It's big (but does fold some for smaller storage) and it does a ton of things while still being really sturdy.  Plus there are lots of accessories for it that can be birthday gifts, or suggestions for aunt/grandparents to give.  It's a big hit with kids that come over to play.

  • Emmy - you'd love my house right now. Not one but TWO drum sets. Sean has his own and he bought Claire a junior one. Along with ear plugs for me:P

Dena - I'm so glad you posted this - I'm at a loss this year. I'm with you - no big purchases! So far I picked up Hi Ho Cherry O and Memory for her (I think I'll also do Candyland). I got her a couple Frozen items as that's her crack right now. Beyond that, I think I'll get her some crafty stuff as she loves that. She got an Innotab last year that she really likes, so I'd recommend that (she just started playing with it more recently).
  • We also usually go the game route - my boys love Zingo - it's a bingo game with pictures/sight words.
  • Boys are hard!  Erin--I like the castle you posted.

I bought Nolan an Innotab last year and he's starting to play with it more.  I anticipated that at 2 he'd be too young for it, but DD has one and with them always coming out with newer versions of them I wanted to make sure they could share games.

He got a smartwheels set last year from Nana and Papa, so I may get him some extra track and cars for it.

We have a National Geographic Animal Encyclopedia that both kids love, so I may get him the dino version. http://www.amazon.com/National-Geographic-Kids-Ultimate-Dinopedia/dp/1426301642/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1411137564&sr=8-4&keywords=National+Geographic+dinosaurs

I think Santa will bring both kids bean bag chairs or some other type of kids seating for their playroom.

Brinley wants more Barbies.  She's also into fashion and artsy stuff, so I might see if I can find a decent kid's sewing machine.

  • Actually age 3 is the perfect age for the table! B got hers at age 2 and now both kids will sit and color. We even made a chalkboard topfor it (we keep it on all the time to protect the table).

dD1 got a vanity for her room (Santa shops early around here)...don't know about DD2. Both girls will get more Disney outfits...hopefully going to be finished soon

  • Last Christmas we bought Madeline a Magformers set.  Magnet Construction.  I love it because it is the perfect quiet toy for when I trying to put the baby now and it is educational.  The sets can be pricey so it is a great Grandparent gift :-)  This is one of the toys Madeline plays with almost daily.

  • Denalea - if you are thinking of leap pad accessories - zulily has then in a flash deal today & probably through the week.   The prices on headphones, extension cords, bags are pretty good.

No idea on the 3 yr old !   I got his sister a leap pad last year in a great sale so bought another one & may give it to him this year.   Matching cards, puzzles, easy kids games?

Last year we got him a train table and unfortunately it was way too big and he doesn't play with it that much.
