Cleaning microfiber sofas... help!

I have two beige microfiber sofas - one clean, one... dirty (and I'm not just talking about a couple of small stains.) I found a Pinterest tip about cleaning your microfiber sofa with rubbing alcohol and a (white) sponge. (Here is the article)

This seems to be helping as there is dirt coming up on the sponge/washcloth, but after letting it dry and fluffing with a bristle brush, (and going over the dirty spots multiple times) I still have splotches. I'm not sure if I'm making it better or worse! I can't find the tag with the care instructions. I have family coming over for dinner in a few days and was really hoping to have it clean by then - the way it looks right now is downright embarrassing. Has anyone else been through this?

Re: Cleaning microfiber sofas... help!

  • Clean a small area in the back to see if cleaning with soap & water works.  Let it dry completely to see how the fabric reacts.

If all else fails - couch cover.  If you can't find one that fits - bed sheets.
  • Did you find anything that works? We have brown microfiber sofas and two dogs and a kid...The stains aren't as obvious because they are brown but you can see the ring around the outside of each spot pretty clearly. (And even though I know it's not something totally disgusting I can't expect guests to know that.)
  • I found that using a spot bot/steamer with the Bissel pet cleaner works wonders. We have beige couches and 2 kids and a dog and they still look brand new.
