How do you do stuff?

How do you get anything done with babies around? I can clean and pick up when they are sleeping or in their activity centers but other than that I basically have to be with them. If one is sleeping I can wear one and do stuff but not with both. Does it get easier when they can sit up? Or maybe I need to set up two pack n plays in the living room so they don't rip each others' ears off?

Re: How do you do stuff?

  • LOL. that (to me) is one of the great mysteries of life!

I'm not really sure, to be honest. I think I do most of my cleaning during nap time. Once he went down to one nap though it threw me off and I'm still not in to a new routine. It's easier now, since I can wander around the house and he either follows and hangs out (and gets in the way) or plays nearby. When he was that little though, I don't think I got all that much done. There were more naps, but they were each relatively short naps. I probably did what I could while he was in some sort of containment device. He has never liked being in a PNP or crib with toys (which makes me trying to shower alone super challenging), so that was never an option. Usually the exersaucer or a bouncer chair would keep him occupied for a little while.

Now he just likes to dump out whatever I just put away, so it's a whole new challenge. Cleaning and kids don't go together!

  • It will get a lot easier when they can sit, but not crawl yet.  You can surround them with a circle of toys, and they can pick them up and entertain themselves.  That brief stage is wooonderful, and you're almost there! Once they are mobile, its a lot harder :)  But with 2 it actually might be easier, b/c they could play with each other some of the time.

It is hard though.  Very hard.

  • This is why my to-do list has a million things on it. If they are sleeping at the same time, that's my best chance of getting something done. Containment devices like the exersaucer or PNP work but they each have to be happy at the same time in them. Right now we have some separation anxiety, so screaming sometimes follows my leaving the room. Maybe with two it will be easier when they're older, but not yet for me. DD crawls over to DS and takes whatever toy he's playing with. He can't crawl yet so he can't get it back. Instead, he grabs her and won't let go. Screaming ensues. I guess we will get stuff done in a few years? :P

  • I only (!) have one kiddo and can't get anything done at all.

My mom will come over and watch DS so we can do work on the house or DH and I have to take turns.

  • I've found it harder to get stuff done now that he's mobile because he wants to help with EVERYTHING.  He's always in the way.  I do stuff when he's sleeping.  I can do some things when he's eating (dishes, etc) or if he decides he wants to play by himself for a few minutes, but for the most part, I don't get anything done.
