Help me.  I am an insane person who is worried that my sister in law flying to Indy from Dallas in a few weeks will bring Ebola with her.  Tell me I'm crazy, since I know that I am. TIA

Re: rational ladies

  • It's highly unlikely that she would contract it.  Ebola spreads by direct contact with bodily fluids from an infected person.  It is super scary that there are now cases in the states, but I think they have a pretty good grasp on how to keep it contained.

Thanks, @goatlady.  I know that in the rational part of my brain, but it's tiny and being overrun by the crazy part of my brain who hogs up all that space in my giant skull.

What's worse is my other SIL who is a nurse (in PA) is encouraging her to like wear a medical mask on the plane and all this stuff.  Whaaaaaa??

  • You really don't need to be worried. You can only get Ebola if you have DIRECT contact with someone who is showing symptoms (like touching bodily fluids). Even if someone on the plane had it, which is HIGHLY unlikely, you won't get it from being on the same plane (unless they joined the mile high club and swapped spit with an infected person, ha!). A mask is NOT necessary since it is NOT an airborne disease like the flu.

  • Lol!  It is a little scary hearing about it, especially since we are only a few hundred miles from Dallas, but like others said, I wouldn't worry about it.
