am I being inconsiderate?
my SIL just sent me a message asking H and I to watch her 3 children tonight (age 8, 7, and 2 1/2) because one of her friends is having a baby and they want to go spend the evening at the hospital with her.
I told her H and I are swamped (truth) plus we have a med-student staying with us who did no sign-up for a living situation with 3 wild children running around.
honestly I can't stand her kids and I have a ton of work to get done tonight...should I be rearranging my schedule or was I ok to tell her to get a sitter?

I don't think you are being inconsiderate. She is asking you last minute. If it would have been possible for them to give you some advance notice, you could have planned for it and then offered to go watch the kids at her home. This way your student doesn't get distrupted and your house doesn't get trashed.
That is a last minute request and you are have other comitments on your calendar.

Family can drive you crazy. I am kind of glad we live 2 hours of everybody but far enough we can get out of anything.
You are NOT being inconsiderate. If anything it is kind of inconsiderate for her to repeatedly ask you to do these things so last minute.

My family does the same thing. We just tell them no.
