NMMR Vent Thread

As I mentioned before, H is away for the weekend.  All of my weather-dependent plans for today were cancelled, so I had a nice, relaxing morning and was headed out for a run when I noticed that two campaign signs we had just ordered for a relatively heated political race were stolen overnight.  This doesn't make me nervous necessarily, since I'm sure it was just political, but does annoy the heck out of me.  Now I'm wondering if I should bother trying to replace them or cut my losses.  I am pretty passionate about supporting this candidate but don't have time to volunteer in other ways and can't donate enough money to really make a difference.

I called the police to just to get it on record (I'd never expect them to actually pursue this or anything) and they actually want to send someone out to talk to me, so now I'm benched from my run as I wait and pondering whether it's worth it to start a house project.

Anyway, nothing the end of the world, just a little vent.  Anyone else have any to share?

people can sure be assholes.  DH has been trying to get our neighborhood a pool for the last year and half.  He has worked really hard and I'm totally impressed by his drive.  Last Feb. when we had our annual HOA meeting he really promoted it and put out a few signs throughout the neighborhood. Not cheap signs - he designed them on the computer and had them printed out at kinkos.  2 of them were stolen within 1 day.  He decided to instead print out papers and hang them on most of the light poles on the 2 main entrances in our neighborhood.  No one bothered to take them down. LOL

I only have 1 vent for the day.  We played a catholic wedding with mass today.  The couple didn't like piano or organ and hired our trio to accompany the vocalist/cantor.  We had a set rehearsal scheduled today from 12-1 with her.  She calls me and tells me she was at the wrong church so we barely had any time to rehearse with her.  It was so stressful and really irritated me - how can you be at the wrong church!  All the way across town!?

I guess this church has a satellite location 35 minutes away.  Basically, she wasn't paying attention. It made for a stressful day.

  • I know a lady that had campaign signs stolen from her yard and she made the perfect comeback.  She replaced the signs and added an additional sign that said something like: "To the thief that stole my signs:  I would like you to know that because you stole my sign, I returned to C's headquarters and donated an additional $10 to get a replacement sign.  C thanks you for your efforts, which inadvertently triggered additional donations for his campaign."

That is epic!  I would totally steal that if we weren't new in the neighborhood.  I may do the $10 thing anyway to make myself feel better.  The "opponent" has multiple federal corruption convictions and I will be sooo annoyed if he wins.
  • I'm joining in with the venting.  My doctor thinks I have a stress fracture. x-rays showed swelling, but she said often that's all they show with stress fractures until it heals a little, then the fracture shows up.
I'm feeling really bummed, half marathon training was going well, now it seems that both I and my doctor are a little confused about what I should do.

Oh man, that sucks! Does it hurt too much to run or just normal aches and pains?
  • Sorry to hear that, @Gdaisy09!  Can you swim or do yoga instead?

it hurts after running...it seems like when I'm running I can push-through it.  I've done races with tendonitis and plantar facitis before, so I'm no stranger to running with pain, but if it is a stress fracture I don't want to mess around.
@strickland8052 I can, I've been looking at daily/monthly rates at the gyms that have pools.  I decided to forego renewing my gym membership in July because I was going to spend most my time training and running outside. I'm going to try getting my bicycle out tomorrow.

more bummed that I've spent money and time training for races I may not get to run. A 5K this coming sunday and the Half-marathon on the 26th. fingers crossed its just some infalmmation and a week of non-weight bearing activity will have it better.  My MD wrote "it's possible" or "probable" several times saying that it's possible that a stress fracture won't show-up on x-ray right away and it's probable that i may have a fracture even though the x-ray doesn't show one. I'm going to get on pubmed this morning and see if I can understand what possible and probable mean.

  • I'd definitely skip the 5k, but maybe it's not too late for the half! If you have a good base and a 10 miler or two in a couple of weeks off shouldn't kill you. I hope it just turns out to be soreness!

I hope so too.  the 5 K sold out, I'm going to see if one of my friends who didn't get in can have my spot. I've got 3 10+ milers under my belt, this week was the start of my taper, I'm hoping some time on my bike and in the pool will be ok.

now the only problem is my dog has been doing all the training runs with me and H doesn't run...I'm going to have one CRAZY doggy on my hands.
