Shopping for shoes and jackets

So we need a couple of things before we go on our trip. I need some kind of walking boot. I could bring sneaks but I'm certain my feet could get soaked through. DH has no waterproof shoes. (The guy shovels in sneakers.) We don't hike at this point but need to be able to walk significant lengths on uneven terrain.
Also needed: a men's fall/water resistant-ish coat. Maybe women's too, for that matter.

Thought maybe you guys could suggest somewhere to look for comfy and stylish walking boots/shoes? Examples are even better.

Re: Shopping for shoes and jackets

  • My H is a pretty avid outdoorsman; I consider my interest rather casual. It is also an industry where things change fairly rapidly, so your best bet is probably to go in store (like Dick's) and ask specific to what you think for weather/actual use conditions and your budget. From what I remember, North Face and Columbia should be relatively good brands for the price.

For shoes, I have had really good luck with Merrell's. They are probably about as stylish as sneakers but are super comfy. The men's line should be just as good. (You might also want to consider picking up some socks.)  I have something like the ones below.
