Anyone else worry about infertility when they start TTC?

For starters...I'm new here so hello to everyone :) I'm 26 and my husband and I decided to start TTC this month, after several months of discussing it. I had a preconception appointment last week and my dr said it would probably take 3-4 months since I was on birth control, simply as birth control, not due to irregular periods or anything else. All of the sudden I'm just totally paranoid that I could be infertile. I'm obsessively googling signs of infertility or early symptoms of pregnancy, as well as taking pregnancy tests, even though its been less than 3 weeks since my last period started. I've never been diagnosed with anything that could affect my fertility such as PCOS or endometriosis. Is this a normal feeling? I feel like because I've always tried to prevent pregnancy, that it seems so unfathomable to ever see a positive pregnancy test.

I think it is normal to have the 'what ifs?' going through your head but just try to have fun trying. Try not to worry too much about something being wrong until you have a real reason to worry.  It can take a perfectly healthy 'normal' couple up to 12 months to get pregnant.  Good luck and welcome to the board!

  • Welcome to the board!  I am with Xan--try to make it fun and take some of the pressure off of yourself!  This is an exciting time in your life.

But yes, we all google crazy things and keep plenty of HPT's in stock.  Good luck!

  • I think it's definitely normal to have the what ifs. But remind yourself over and over, that RIGHT NOW there is nothing that is telling you that your body is going to have difficulty conceiving a child. 1 in 8 women/couples have difficulty conceiving, which means that 7 out of 8 have no trouble at all.  Without any of those indicators, your odds of being fine to conceive are much greater to be on the "good" side of the odds. Have fun and enjoy this journey.  There'll be plenty of time to stress about it in a year if things haven't gone the right way.

  • Aimothy and Xan said it better than I could! Good luck on your journey!
  • It was definitely on my mind when we started, and perhaps more so after our first month didn't work out, but chances are you won't have any problems. It's easier said than done, but try not to worry about it right away. Good luck!

T-TTC since Dec 2008. PCOS/nonexistant cycles(anovulation) and endo. HSG in '10 revealed both tubes blocked. Lap surgery in Dec '10 to correct. Failed Clomid/IUI and injectable(Bravelle)/IUI cycles so far.

  • Yep, I was worried bc of a hx of ruptured ovarian cysts. Even with problems like cysts, endo, etc. sometimes there are problems, but oftentimes not. Don't worry too much at this early stage - good luck!

My husband and I just started ttc too! This was our first month officially, though it's been about three months that we haven't prevented. Anyway, I am terrified we'll have problems with fertility. I have no reason the be either. I think I am starting to drive him a little crazy though lol so I hope it gets easier!
  • with DH's diagnosis I knew we would have issues.....so I really cant answer this right.... The girls have said it all....good luck and welcome

  • Thanks everyone! Before you're actually TTC, it seems like it's soooo easy to get pregnant with one slip up and then when you actually start trying, you realize its not quite so easy. Ha. Google can definitely be the worst for worriers like myself :)
  • Hello. :) I am new here as well and we have plans to start trying in April and this has crossed my mind a bunch lately. I am currently in the dilemma on when to stop taking my BC. I know its hard not to worry, but I am trying my best not too.
