QOTD 10/13

DH and I just got a new thermostat for our upstairs zone because it stopped working last spring. When I was setting all the programs for it I thought to myself "what do my October 12 ladies set there's at?"

So what do my October 12 ladies set there thermostats at?

Re: QOTD 10/13

  • ....I honestly don't remember. I'm lucky to live in an area where we don't use heat very often. I think last year it was on like 67??

  • 65 in the winter, but I'll use the oven a lot to help heat the house.

Funny story: Saturday night I woke up because I smelled fire.  I shook DH awake and he smelled it too.  We searched the whole house/garage and found no fire.  I laid back down, smell of fire gone, and I swear I heard my grandpa's voice say, "That was a test."  Anyway, it freaked me out and now I've turned the furnace off.  Luckily it's going to be in the high 60s all week so we should be ok with no heat on.  Hopefully I calm the F down about it when it gets cold out.
  • In the winter, it's set between 63-65. In the summer, between 70-72. I hate having the AC cranked up so much but we live in a 3 story townhouse and, unless it's set on 70, it's sweltering on the top floor where our bedroom is.

  • We keep ours at 68 while we are home and 64 when we are away and at night.

My house is a 2 level split, so it's 4 1/2 stories.  I have to turn my AC way up too.  I try to keep it at 72 as my lowest but I've caved on really hot days and gone down to 70.
  • We use a wood stove for most of our heat so the thermostat is set low. We usually keep the house around 60 but the stove makes it 68 inside.  In the summer we don't use air conditioning often  because our house has old windows, so the air escapes anyways.  And our ceilings are so tall the AC has to work extra hard to cool the rooms.  We keep the windows open when we are home, or set the AC to turn on at 86 degrees.

  • At night, we have it set to 70-72 and during the day, it's at 73-75.  When we leave the house, it's at 76-78.  This will be the first winter back at my parents house, so I'm not sure what we'll have to set it to.

@goatlady12 That must have been scary!

  • We have it set to 65, at night and during the week when we aren't home it automatically goes to 60. Sometimes I'll put it a little higher bc the baby doesn't sleep with a blanket, she does but she cuddles with it, doesn't sleep under it.

  • Heat is usually set at 65, 60 at night. But now we have baby it's set to 68. H still sleeps with a fan for background noise.

AC is usually set at 80, 75 at night. But this summer it was 75, 70 at night and I still slept half naked with 2 fans. H gets mad when it's on 80 since he sleeps during the day. So I might lose this battle next year

  • When the heat is on, it's 60 at night and when we're not home. If it's really cold out, I'll raise it to 65. When we wake in the morning and in the evening, it's 68, 72 when it's really cold.

In the apartment, we only have 1 window AC for the entire apartment. We keep it at 60 most of the time, sometimes we'll turn it up to 68. We usually have there AC off when we're not home and put the timer on for about a half an hour before we get home.
  • We have the Nest smart learning thermostat and it has been amazing. When it isn't sweltering, it turns off between 8-4:30 M-F while we're at work and only cools if it gets above 80. It got so hot in August we had to turn it to 75 while we were gone or else the AC couldn't keep up once we got home. Most of the summer we kept it around 73. Now it's at 72 until bedtime when I have to knock it to 71 or I can't sleep. I'd gladly take it colder!

For heat, same thing that M-F it's off between 8 - 4:30 unless the house drops below 60. Sometimes we turn it on if it's a frigid day. We tend to keep it set around 67.

  • AC at 68 (I have to sleep cold) and heat at 69/70.  I don't mind bundling up in winter, but I HATE being hot and will crank the AC the f up.
