Irregular Periods, Trouble Conceiving?
I went to the OB-GYN yesterday with my husband for my annual checkup and to ask her some questions. Essentially it ended with her giving me preconception pills that I need to take when I decide to come off the pill and she took 9 vials of blood for all the prenatal testing.
I am little discouraged because she said that since my period was very irregular before the pill that it will most likely go back to being irregular and that getting pregnant might be difficult, but that if I get pregnant within the first month of coming off the pill, theoretically I could have twins. It has made us rethink our conception plan because of the fact that I might struggle.
I'm supposed to get my cycle this week, so I have no idea if I should renew my BC script or not.
Any advice?

You won't know what your body will do until you're off the pill.
I had very irregular periods before bc and I've had nonexistent cycles since I got off the pill 6 years ago. That's unusual though so don't freak out. And even if you DO have irregular periods when you get off the pill, there are things you can do and meds you can take that will help you ovulate. No need to borrow trouble right now though.
If you DO find that you're irregular, it's not the end of the world. Plenty of women with irregular cycles still get pregnant all the time. It just may take a little more work (charting temps, OPKs, etc.. still not a big deal though. Women with regular cycles do that stuff too!).
Good luck!

T-TTC since Dec 2008. PCOS/nonexistant cycles(anovulation) and endo. HSG in '10 revealed both tubes blocked. Lap surgery in Dec '10 to correct. Failed Clomid/IUI and injectable(Bravelle)/IUI cycles so far.
And what testing was ordered? 9 vials is more than I had drawn for a full fertility workup from my RE (and that included all tests to clear us for tissue transplant). Hormone levels would be worthless as you are still on birth control. What exactly did she order? I'm guessing some very wasteful things that won't be accurate as it seems as though your doctor pretty much has no clue what she's doing when it comes to this based on her comments that are rooted in "research" from the early 1980's.

My OB told me as well to start taking a true pre-natal before you even consider TTC. She was more concerned about the folic acid content (based on my medicinal history), but she was happy with the one I'm taking (Nature Made Pre Natal w/DHA).
Bonus: My nails and hair have never been better.
