Stain Removers (Fur baby question)

Well the time has come for me to be initiated into the mom of puppy club and Jasmine had a diarrhea episode on our basement carpet this evening. I used a professional grade stain remover (just a spray that you leave on for an hour and then blot up), but it's still very obvious that there are stains. I'm very thankful that it was on our basement carpet as we haven't actually used that room much yet, but I'd still like to get it cleaner looking than it is.

Any suggestions??

On a side note, I learned tonight that DH gags at the sight of diarrhea. Should be fun in a few months :)

Re: Stain Removers (Fur baby question)

  • We had to rent a carpet cleaner to get it clean, nothing worked by hand. Welcome to the super fun club!

  • Nature's miracle is great. With patience and following the directions I have gotten old per stains up. It also helps with the odor so they don't use the spot again.

  • I second the Nature's Miracle suggestion, if that doesn't work I agree with the steam cleaner suggestion. I don't think renting a steam cleaner is too expensive ($25?). I hope you can get the stain out!

  • The worst we ever clean up is cat puke, but I swear by Carbona for that. It's pretty cheap and comes in a bottle with a brush at the top, so you use the bottle to brush it right into the stain. Maybe not hardcore enough for puppy diarrhea though.

  • We bought a spot bot when my dog was sick. She had bad diarrhea when we were at work and had some accidents on the carpet. The spot bot is the only thing that worked for us. I don't even spend money on the "cleaner" for it anymore. We just use water and it works great, granted at this point we only have cats in the house.

  • We use Natures Miracle for each potty mess, but we bought this sucker and use it religiously.  The main piece lifts off and you can use the hand held portion to spot clean or use the entire machine to shampoo carpets and rugs.  I clean our carpets 2 times/year with vinegar water to neutralize the odors, and probably use the spot treatment a minimum of 2 times every 3 months.

You can get it much cheaper than this at other places, but this was the quick google search I found.

FWIW, our dog is 5 now but still has diarrhea accidents every 3 months.  The vet told us it's her body doing the functions of AF, but since she's spayed she doesn't bleed.  Instead she gets diarrhea.  It's terrible and disgusting, but it's beyond her control and ours.
