Re: Do you share a credit card with your spouse?

  • Just interested in the why- why not or why did you decide to?
For me we are kind of both. All my cc's have DH name on them, but he does have an AMEX that he keeps just for when he travels overseas that I don't have a card for.

  • We do not share a CC.  We both were established in our own "money systems" when we married, and we just don't want to go through the trouble of merging.  If its not broke, don't fix it.
  • I added H to my best card after the wedding to maximize our point earning and keep track of family spending easier. It's the only card we use now.
  • We use joint cards because we find it to be easier to manage a joint budget that way.  I check them each day and update the budget accordingly.

The only one that's not joint is Kohls... and that's because they required all this paperwork to get him signed up on my account.  We only use that card when we get 30% off coupons - so no more than 4 times a year.  It was too much trouble to make it worth adding him to that one.  But other than that, all of ours are joint.

  • I voted no, because we no longer use credit cards.  They have been shredded and the accounts are closed.  Debit only for us.

  • we had our credit cards before we met and got married.  Haven't opened any joint cards since getting married.  I don't see the point in it and god forbid a divorce or death would happen I wouldn't want to be liable for any money owed.

  • No but only because we don't use credit cards. We paid off our credit cards and don't touch them. If an emergency came up where we needed to for some odd reason then we'd tell each other to be sure the bill got paid. We share all our money and we decided that the little extra bit we'd get in points wasn't worth playing the credit card game

  • we have one card we both are on...that's the card with the highest limit and the one that most of our purchases (gas, bills, groceries, etc.) go on.  I'm the only one on the other cards we have (amazon, tjmaxx, kohl's, banana) because I'm the one that would be making most the purchases at those places, and it was just more work to get H added. we work from a joint budget, so all the money comes from the same place, might as well share credit cards too.

  • I said yes. We recently just added each others name to the 1 main credit card that we each use. I didn't think it was necessary but H didn't like the fact that we had to forge eachothers signature if we wanted to use the card if the other person wasn't there.
  • No, because I am single and don't have credit cards.

  • We do on our Target RedCard and our Amex. Then, we each have an individual card and a bake-up individual card.
