Should I be discouraged so soon??

I was previously married and got PG the first try.. I was also 29 then.. Now I am 38 and not so sure it will be that easy.. we did it two days before OV and again on OV.. I must say I am assuming by date and fluid when I ovulate but I am 100% certain what day I ov.. I need to get a OPK. but I am 38 and so is MH and we tried last month and took a chance a couple days before Ov in august.. I am already thinking the worst.. my eggs are too old. his sperm sucks..  am I being irrational?

Re: Should I be discouraged so soon??

  • your right!
  • What April said. You really need to be temping to confirm that you ovulated.

    Married: 10/13/2013
    TTC #1: Mirena removed 5/26/2015; DH - normal SA, me - diagnosed with PCOS 8/4/2016 - on Metformin;
    BFP - 10/29/2016!!!, EDD - 7/8/2017
  • so when do I start temping?? and the OPK is not enough
  • Start temping CD1. This is the best way to "know" that you ovulated. Like April said, it can take a healthy couple up to a year to get pregnant so try to relax and have fun with it.

  • I loved the Fertility Friend tutorials back when I was tracking ovulation.  It really helped me to understand what I was looking for.  And to hopefully help pinpoint ovulation.  It didn't help me, but that turns out to be because we were workin' with just a little bit o' sperm and had nothing to do with whether I ovulated or not. We didn't learn that little diddy until we'd been at it for the year that it takes a normal, healthy couple to conceive.

  • Check out Fertility Friend, temp, and sex every-other-day.  I believe if you are over 35, the recommendation is to see your doctor after 6 months w/o getting pregnant.  Hopefully it won't come to that.  Good luck!

    Yes, it's 6 months once you are over 35. I wouldn't say it is totally irrational, given your age, but it isn't totally reasonable either. Opk's will tell you if you are gearing up to ovulate. Temping will confirm if you actually did. It is possible to gear up to ovulate and then not ovulate. Also, opk's give you a window of ovulation not an actual day. A positive means you could ovulate in 12-36 hours. There is lots to learn, so if this cycle doesn't work out then stick around and learn what you can.
