Car Seat Accesories

We are just starting our registry and my cousin mentioned getting a JJ Cole car seat cover that has a cloth liner for the car seat. She said it makes cleaning 10X easier since you can just take it off and wash it rather than take all the parts of the car seat out and wash them.
JJ Cole Urban Bundle Me

What did you use or would you suggest?

Re: Car Seat Accesories

  • They actually say to not use the JJ Cole Bundle Me because it creates cushion between baby and the seat itself.  Which in turn can hinder the safety of the seat itself.  Instead, there's a cover similar to a shower cap that you can buy that will do the same thing as far as warmth.  We live in the midwest and are having a winter baby, so the Bundle Me was a must have for me.  Until I did some research.

    Hopefully this link works.

  • I've read that you're not supposed to add anything to the carseat.  even those neck support things, you should use a blanket instead if baby ends up being that small.

check out the fb group, Car Seats for the Littles. they discuss all the do's and don't, what the best car seats are, and how to properly installl and put your baby in the carseat. its really eye opening

  • Why do they even sell the JJ Cole Urban Bundle me then?? That's crazy if they say it hinders the safety...

I just want something to help keep the lining of the car seat semi clean.

  • Ditto PPs. Everything I've read said to add nothing to the seat or straps that didn't come with it from the manufacturer.

  • The manufacturer says this though "In line with JJ Cole's commitment to child safety, the Bundle Me has been tested to FMVSS 213 requirements. All tests passed on the child restraint system, indicating the Bundle Me had little or no effect on the performance of the child restraint system."

    I read that too.

Then if you read the warranty part of the car seat it says that the warranty and safety is voided if anything is added on to the car seat.  Which makes sense.  The way I looked at it, if something were to happen to our child in a car accident and we felt that it was a flaw in the car seat.  Then the last thing I want them to say is, "we won't cover any damages or medical bills because you had an insert installed."

Also keep in mind that there are no regulations or safety standards that the manufacturer of the Bundle Me has to meet, but there are for the car seat manufacturers. So when the manufactures of the Bundle Me say they passed all safety tests, all that really means is that the Bundle Me passed THEIR safety tests, which are not nearly as rigorous as what the car sea manufacturers have to pass. I don't know why they aren't banned, but I think it's just matter of time.

  • Just echoing PPs at this point, but I've always heard you shouldn't add anything between baby and the seat or straps unless it's sold to you by the manufacturer (I think some of them do sell some types of add-ons, but I don't know about anything like the Bundle Me). I think I actually read this originally in the context of the Bundle Me.

  • I really had no idea about any of this stuff until I started doing some research.  We even added the seat protector things to our registry to go under the car seats so it protects our leather.  I had no idea that voided any warranty also until a few fine ladies from here looked over my registry for me and told me.

They still make a lot of things that are unsafe.  They know that many parents have no idea and buy them thinking it's not a problem.

  • If it makes you feel any better, I have never had to clean our car seat (more than just quickly wiping it down) and A was a reflux baby who spit up constantly.

  • @aggiebug It depends on which type of seat you plan on getting, but I know that Chicco now includes them with the seat and then has it listed as being an accessory that voids the warranty.
So you can use theirs that are included, but not add any additional.

  • I also never had to clean the car seat when DS was in the bucket. We just pulled off the padding to wash it now because its grimy and dusty from sitting around for a year and half (just a word of caution, you can NEVER wash the straps, they should never be submerged, or it also voids the warranty).

DS was a Feb baby in Canada, and we didn't have a shower-cap style cover because we never found we needed it.  We put a thick blanket tucked around him (after he was strapped in) and another over the car seat and it did the trick for the month or two of winter that was left considering you don't leave the house much in the beginning anyway.

We just bought one for this baby because I know we have 4-5 months of winter ahead of us after his birth.  Just food for thought if you are looking to save some cash.

  • Our car seat has been great just the way it is, we haven't added any accessories. I've also had to do just a quick wipe down here and there even with a reflux baby.
  • We haven't had to clean either of our infant seats and my twins are still in them (7 months).  We are just now starting to think about switching to a convertible seats now.
