Paterno Legacy by Jay Paterno (awesome book!)

I just wanted to throw out a recommendation for "Paterno Legacy" by Jay Paterno. I know we have some other PSU grads on the board. I bought the book out of curiosity and was amazed at the level of the writing. Some people argue that it is (slightly) biased but I think he presents A LOT of facts that the media glossed over during the reporting of the Sandusky affair. I thought his arguments were well thought out and very reasonable. He also provided a lot of great personal stories about Joe Paterno. The book had me in tears multiple times. For anyone that was there in the early/mid-2000s (ME!) he spends a lot of time discussing the teams from that era and what they accomplished. It was neat because I remember/was at most of the games he was talking about.

Definitely a must read for Penn State fans or anyone wanting to know more about Joe Paterno.

  • I was at PSU from 2002-2003 but live in State College until 2008. You have definitely made me curious about this book.

  • It's totally worth it! I was there from 2002-2006 as well and when the Sandusky affair came out I knew that everything being reported wasn't factually correct. It was nice to read, after years of investigation, what were and were not the facts.
  • This is by his kid, right?  Don't you think it was in their best interest to paint Joe in a kinder light?

  • Absolutely, but he mentions a lot of facts (backed up by sources) which have come out since all the investigations have taken place in the years since. However, since the media hype has died down, none of these facts are getting reported anymore.

Like I said originally some reviews do claim a slight bias and I can see that but I really feel like his goal was to try and tell the story as factually as possible.

Or he played it down to show Dad in a more favorable light.  Because who really wants to think that their father condoned what was going on through inaction/ignorance?
