Yup. I worked in a card store for a couple years, a bakery, and Bed Bath & Beyond in college. Then worked as a manager at PetSmart for 3 years.

  • Yup - I worked at Toys R Us in high school and through college. I then went on to be a manager at Babies R Us once I graduated from college. I worked for the company total for just shy of 10 years. I also worked part time at Buy Buy Baby when I moved to the DC area and wasn't making enough at my full time job.

There are a lot of things I miss about it. But not enough things to go back work there again!

  • Yup, I worked at JC Penny for a summer and I hated it!  I switched to working in restaurants.

  • I worked at a Michael's the first half of senior year of high school.  Then started working here right after my 18th birthday.  I don't think I've ever admitted this on the board but I never went to college, so here I sit....
  • Nope. I've always worked food services and before mat leave was at an answering service.

  • I worked at the Gap for half of senior year in high school. I hated it. The hours were ridiculous, I always had to stay late, past the time limit for my age according to the law, and I spent all of my money on clothes. I worked 2 other jobs to make money to support myself while working at the Gap.

@goatlady12‌ there's nothing wrong with not going to college. You need to do what's right for you.
  • Yes. I worked at DSW all through college/grad school, then finally quit to work at a salon during my internship, that sucked so I quit.

  • Yep. FYE (CD and DVD store) from 2006 to 2008 and Gander Mountain (outdoors store) from 2008 to 2011. There was a two month overlap where I worked both at the same time while I was in college. I left FYE because I was getting better hours at Gander. I quit Gander when I started my current job since I'd be switching from part to full time.

I did also have a one month stint at American Eagle, which I hated. Short version--on call schedules are the worst.

  • Oh yeah. I started at Walgreens when I was 17 and worked there until I was 19. Then I got hired at Friedman's Jewelers. They closed due to bankruptcy about 6 months later. I stayed until they closed, but for the last month worked at New York and Company. Once Friedman's closed, I got hired at Marks and Morgan Jewelers. Once they started giving me more hours and paying me more than NY&Co, I quit there. Once I quit M&M, I started working in daycare.

  • and @goatlady12, as long as you are able to work and support yourself and your family, who cares? Neither of my parents graduated from college, yet they own their own business. It's only frustrating when someone is like "oh, I can live off the government, why should I go to college and work" Don't worry about it, you know we love you!

  • Yep. My first job was at a clothing store and I've also worked at a jewelry store and now I'm at a grocery store.  I can't say that I enjoy it though...

@goatlady12: pfft, college is overrated anyway!

  • No I've always done food service other than jobs within my career industry.

  • I worked at Victorias Secret Beauty. At the time it was actually a separate company from the lingerie store. I worked there over Christmas and it was so fun. After Christmas when it got slow I didn't like it so much.

  • Grocery store during college. I started in the bakery then deli, cashier and customer service. The things that go on at Grocery stores are crazy (at least mine was).
