NMMR Christmas Party

So, this year I am in charge of my works' Christmas party. The most experience I have with this is last year for my four year old class. This year I get to do it for about 20-30 guys, 2 females for sure and possible wives of the guys. Any ideas?

Re: NMMR Christmas Party

  • I'm not sure what type of job/office you have but I've helped with my work party for several years.

We have ours at a local hotel conference/reception room. We do a buffet dinner: 2 entrée options, hot veggies, salad, a potato and table of desserts. Coffee is include. We opt for a cash bar.

We do a white elephant gift exchange with a limit of $15.

We have about 100 in attendance, spouses or a guest is allowed however some just come solo.

The hotel already has the room decorated sowe don't have to fuss with that. We do small favor on the table. It's pretty cost effective and no clean up. We also do Christmas music via electronic device and speakers. Last year I think someone used their iPod.

  • It depends on how fancy you want to make it & how many people will be there & what your budget is. Is this a party that is normally held during work hours or in the evening after work? And is it usually held at your place of employment or somewhere else?
  • Around 30-40 people at very most. They are working on the budget, not super fancy-we are a factory. And I'm pretty sure it will be in our break room.

What time of day?  I work at a non-profit, so we do a low-budget Thanksgiving lunch with catered BBQ (we're KC proud, so BBQ a given but you could order a rotisserie turkey and ham if you'd prefer) and there's a sign-up to bring a side or dessert (or pop, napkins, utensils, etc.).  I'd skip having anyone bring gifts, no one wants to spend their hard earned money on junk someone else is likely just going to throw away.

If it's after work, could you do it at a place like a bowling alley or a Dave and Busters?  The first game and the first two rounds of drinks on the company?

You are lucky @als1982!  I'm a fellow non-profiter and our Christmas party is going out to eat, everyone pays for themselves.

I think a bowling party with the first two rounds (you could even do pitchers) on the company is a great idea.  A preschool I used to work for did that once and people really enjoyed it.  If you have to have it at the office, I think BBQ is a good way to go as well.  Pretty much everyone enjoys it.  I'm vegetarian so it's not my thing personally, but I still encourage it because I know it's a crowd pleaser.  When I go to BBQ things I just plan to eat in advance.

The bowling sounds like a great idea!

I'm in nonprofit as well. Our Christmas party is the only real event we have so we try to make it nice however our budget is still pretty small! We do a low key summer picnic but it's a potluck so very cheap.
