GTKY - Your Fur Babies - LR

I always had animals growing up (cats and dogs).

When I was in college, I got a cat – Autumn. She was an American Shorthair (tortoise shell). She was a good cat. She loved DH and me. She didn’t like many other people. She loved to cuddle. I miss that the most.

In June of this year, she was about 12 years old, we came home to find her laying on our bedroom floor. She couldn’t move much. I knew within about 10 seconds that this was “it” for my kitty.

I rushed her to the emergency vet who told me that they could do a lot of expensive tests, but even if they could figure out what was wrong with her, they very likely couldn’t fix it.

The vet guessed that she either had an enlarged heart which was throwing off clots (likely) or that she had some sort of spinal cord issue (less likely).

So we said goodbye to our Autumn that evening.

We got our dog Ling Ling when she was about 4 years old (rescue). She was a Shar-pei and the most wonderful dog that ever walked the face of the earth. She was a guard dog who enjoyed napping. She was such a kind, gentle soul. She was so goofy too. We loved her so much. DH was especially attached to her.

In August of this year, we noticed she was acting strange one morning. DH took the day off and took her to the vet. The vet thought she had Shar-pei fever, which is not common for a dog of her age (she was about 9, usual life expectancy for a Shar-pei is between 8 and 10). They kept her overnight and treated her. They really thought she had a good chance of a full recovery.

In the morning they called me to let me know that she had actually gotten worse on the treatment (not better). DH went to the vet to be with her when she passed.

So we had to put both of our fur babies down this summer.

We are now fur-baby-less, and we feel it.

We dream of getting a new cat and dog some day, but we are thinking of moving in the next 1 – 2 years, so we think it would be best to wait.

We miss them every day.

I will post pictures in the comments.

  • They're beautiful. So sorry you had to say goodbye to both of them, especially so close together.
