I have a BA in Business Administration – Management – Human Resource Management (a concentration in Management).
I am one of the (lucky?) few who do what they went to school to do.
My first job was at Papa Murphy’s pizza, I worked there for a year. It was a great job. I learned so very much and I can still make a great pizza (or calzone)!
I am a firm believer that everyone *needs* to work in retail/customer service at least once. That way you know what it is like to be on the “other side” of an “upset customer”.
Of course, I am on the other side of an upset customer (employee) just about every day, so you do get used to it!
My first job in HR was with a mid-sized company (about 500) and I got to do just about everything in HR, which was great. I learned so much.
My next/current job is one I enjoy. I am in Benefits Administration for a very large employer (about 40,000). I deal with multiple plans in regard to medical, dental, life insurance, long term disability, retirement, and some additional benefits (FSA, DCAP, HSA, etc.). It is a complicated job. I deal with employee issues, signing up new employees, conducting 4 hour new employee benefits orientations (for an audience of about 100) and answering questions from current employees. It keeps me on my toes and it is right where I want to be right now.
