Monday accountability!

Re: Monday accountability!

  • 1. We did pretty good this weekend. We had breakfast out both days (20) and I bought furniture and some decor items at a garage sale so I spent about $400 there. (My best find, an antique 2 door ice box the fridge people used before electric fridges were around. That was $300 but it is our linen closet in our guest bath, and looks amazing!!)
    2. No progress. I need to call the mortgage company to see when the recast will be finalized. We will keep the payment the same to pay off early, but I feel better now that we have the flexibility.
    3. I love the holidays. We will be hosting the in laws for thanksgiving. My parents will be here around Christmas, so we will have Christmas early with them.

  • 1. Expensive!!!

Friday- $70 Dinner out at a nice restaurant (it's been a looong time since we've done this!)-cash

$175 on clothes for myself. All in cash!!

       Saturday- $23 Pet meds cash

                       $32 Gas cash

       Sunday $0

    2. $111 to house down payment

        $1000 to mortg principle

        $124 to vacation savings

We also found out that our mortgage company made a payment out of escrow to our home insurance company for the year when we've been paying all along this year in conjunction with our auto insurance!! GRRRRR, I don't what happened but I need to call and straighten this out!! We should get a re-fund for everything that we've paid this year if all goes right.... I'm pissed!!!

    3. We don't host any holidays so we will be going to family members houses for dinners.

  • 1. not too bad...we were at a fundraiser on saturday night..I spend $120 on the tickets a few weeks ago.  H bid on a one night stay at the Bed and Breakfast we got married at and won $135 (it was valued at $230, so I can't complain too much) he was trying to be cute, but I'm a little pissed that he bid on it, I was running the fundraiser so I didn't check in with him at all...he went a little rouge. Its only good for a week-night non holiday, and we'll have to find something to do with the dog...I'm being negative, but it was $135 we didn't really have to spend.
    Sunday $130 groceries, $45 gas

    2. I transfered $660 to savings (about 250 to our general savings account 250 to the home improvement fund, and the rest between our other goals)

    3. I'll be going to my parents for the holidays, H has to work.

  • 1. How was your weekend?

Pretty decent, no car repairs yay! But we did end up spending $40 on nieces winter clothes, last years jeans looked like capris lol. And then DH spent $10 on lottery tickets. Neither were specifically budgeted for but we had the money left over in our food and gas budgets. And then made a payment on layaway.

    2. Any progress on goals?

Sort of, only $60 left to pay on layaway which should tomorrow, then everyone except three people and my work are find for Christmas and we can start shipping.
Unfortunately though mom was injured and may need us to cover Decembers mortgage.

    3. Will you be hosting for the holidays this year? Or how do you spend your holidays?

Not really any people to host for down here so it will just be a regular day-no kiddo, she will be at her moms. But maybe next year DH and I can host for our Utah family.

  • 1. Not bad! 80 on a much needed date night, 80 on groceries, 30 on beer for guests.

    2. Tomorrow we'll put $100 in savings and start a separate home repair account (will get $100/month).

    3. We're in that awful vortex of visiting like three houses each holiday. We don't enjoy it at all, so maybe next year I'll try to host at least TG. I just need a bigger table and I'll be good to go.
  • 1. How was your weekend?

Not so good... Friday went downtown, DH won free tickets to a comedy show. Then spent $50 in parking, drinks, appetizers.

Saturday we took an early Target trip, got the niece and nephew Christmas presents ($35 combined) and some other toiletries ($35). My parents came to visit and while the men worked on fixing DH's falling car window ($112 car budget), mom & I went shopping. I got new fall/winter clothes for $125 (not budgeted for). Parents took us out to dinner Saturday night (their treat) to celebrate DH's birthday early!

    Sunday spent $32 in groceries.

    2. Any progress on goals? Not till next payday (Friday).

    3. Will you be hosting for the holidays this year? Or how do you spend your holidays? We live out of state from all family. We will be making the trip to my parents for Thanksgiving. Then mine for weekend before Christmas and DH's for week of Christmas. Both are road trips but still tough because our families do not live near us or each other.

  • 1. How was your weekend?  Not too bad!  Friday H took my car to the shop for it's annual maintenance check, and the only urgent issue was related to one of the tires, which cost us $100 for that and an oil change.  We feel very lucky!  Otherwise, Friday we went out for dinner ($30).  Then, Saturday we volunteered at a soup kitchen and ate lunch there, and then had leftovers from the previous night for dinner.  Only other money spent on Saturday was on my dry-cleaning ($30) and to clean H's car ($8).  Sunday, we had QT coffee before church, and then I worked on the leaves while DH watched football.  I ate at home for both lunch and dinner, but H used his mad money for football food.

    2. Any progress on goals?  We put $300 in savings, but no extra student loan payments this week.

    3. Will you be hosting for the holidays this year? Or how do you spend your holidays?  This year for Thanksgiving we're going to Vegas.  (Anyone have any suggestions on things to see and do?!)  For Christmas, it'll be making the rounds to all the families, who luckily live within a 100 mile radius of us.  No hosting yet - but we likely will when we have kids and a larger house.  Ours will most likely be the only grandchild(ren) for both our sets of parents.

  • 1. How was your weekend?
We spent some $$ this weekend, but it was budgeted for.  And we got some great deals.  We spent $60 on area rugs for the office (found at a clearance center!), $25 for window treatments for the living room, and $200 on lamps for the living room.  The lamps were a bit of a splurge, but we've been eyeing them for years - truly, we talked about registering for them when we got married.  They are from Pottery Barn, and this weekend I had a 15% off coupon plus we got 20% back on our credit card from that purchase.  So it made them about as good of a deal as we were going to get.
    2. Any progress on goals?
I sent $6,000 to savings last week.  I love it when I get paid 3x in a month (I'm paid biweekly).
    3. Will you be hosting for the holidays this year? Or how do you spend your holidays?
We are hosting Thanksgiving this year at the new house.  Christmas will be spent with H's parents.  Then I think we will see my parents the weekend after Christmas, since it falls on a Thursday this year.  I've decided to take the day after Christmas off to have a 5-day weekend.

  • 1. How was your weekend? No too bad. $18 at 5 Guys (Yumm), $30 at the grocery store, $35 at target for a halloween costume and nice sports bra on clearance (yay!), and $30 gas.

    2. Any progress on goals? Continue to have auto payments toward debt and savings. Paid off some charges on my credit card immediately so I don't carry a balance.

    3. Will you be hosting for the holidays this year? Or how do you spend your holidays? I am hosting Thanksgiving with my family (not on Thanksgiving thou) and Christmas Eve for H's. I'll spend Christmas day with my family and he'll spend it with his. We have way too many places to be on Holidays to spend them together, if we did we would spend the majority of the time in the car.

  • 1. How was your weekend?
Okay.  $115 at Ikea on things for the nursery and den, $350 at Menards for insulation, and $20 at a mexican restaurant last night.
    2. Any progress on goals?
We were able to cash flow a lot of very expensive things last month and carry over $500 into this month to hopefully help out the rest of the remodeling.  There are a lot of things we're needing to spend money on in the next couple of months, but so far we've been able to cash flow everything and not touch savings.  That's a huge plus!
    3. Will you be hosting for the holidays this year? Or how do you spend your holidays?
Yup.  We host Thanksgiving dinner and then host Friendsgiving for a group of 25 friends.  It's a blast!

  • 1. How was your weekend?
Pretty bad. Went to Target to buy duck tape; came out with a new vacuum cleaner ($75) and $60 worth of miscellaneous things.  Other than that, just groceries for $80.

    2. Any progress on goals?
No.  This week would be the week that we usually put something in savings, but that isn't going to happen this month.  We spent a lot last month on already planned "mini-vacations" and a new brick patio, so I don't feel too guilty.

    3. Will you be hosting for the holidays this year? Or how do you spend your holidays?
On Thanksgiving I will be running my second half marathon, and then immediately afterwards I will be hosting H's parents and brother, as well as my parents.  Yes, I bite off more than I can chew.  We don't have plans for Christmas yet, but they will probably be more relaxed/less ambitious.
  • 1. How was your weekend? Pretty good- groceries ($116), Target ($54), Old Navy/Gap ($71)
    2. Any progress on goals? $500 into savings this weekend and we also have x-mas shopping for the girls complete (and their outfits for Thanksgiving and X-mas)!
    3. Will you be hosting for the holidays this year? Or how do you spend your holidays? We have Thanksgiving at our house, but my parents bring all of the food and make it here.. all we have to do is clean the place and wash some dishes after (easy!). We go to DH's parents' house for X-mas night and bring a dish or two. We usually have them over in the morning to watch the girls open presents.. I make a big baked french toast. It's nice and relaxing- I love this time of the year!

  • 1. How was your weekend?
Mostly just Groceries but i spent 165 out of a 380 monthly budget on the first day of the month. But it was mostly bulk items that should last me the month - so i am trying not to freak out.
    2. Any progress on goals?
Thanks to a 3 paycheck month we got  a good chunk of change - but most of it went to fund H's new tires. I've been trying for 3 months to start a sinking fund for car repairs but i end up using it all up plus more for my car repairs every month. oyyy

    3. Will you be hosting for the holidays this year? Or how do you spend your holidays?
We're going broke and making the way too expensive trip up to NJ to see our families because my baby shower is that weekend. I guess it'll even out in gifts thats the only thing keeping me sane.

  • 1.  We did good.  Friday we stayed home to trick or treat.  Saturday I got a coffee and coffee filters ($2,50) and that night we went out to eat ($35).  Sunday DH went to the grocery store to get a few things and rent a red box movie.

    2.  Sold a foot rest on CL and  put that money into the home fund ($20)

    3.  We don't really host.  We spend xmas eve at my mom and dad's.  Usually the Saturday before we go to MIL's house.  We spend xmas day in our own home.  This reminds me that I need to get xmas lists from everyone so I can my shopping done this month.  EEK!

  • 1. How was your weekend?

Not bad at all.  Friday we stayed home.  Saturday $80 groceries, $5 Starbucks, $8 at Home Goods, and $55 dinner out.  Sunday $0.

    2. Any progress on goals?

Moved money over to our savings accounts

    3. Will you be hosting for the holidays this year? Or how do you spend your holidays?

I offered to host Thanksgiving this year!  It will only be 5 people, including me and DH, but I am starting to get nervous.  So if anyone had any advice, tips, etc, please share them.

  • 1. How was your weekend? Good. H spent $300 of his $500 worth of blow money. We spent $75 on gas and lunch out to go to NH to see his family

    2. Any progress on goals?
We officially have $1300 saved for my next semester. We need $1700 more. Should be done by Dec. 1st.

    3. Will you be hosting for the holidays this year? Or how do you spend your holidays? Heavens no. We are still the babies in our families so we are expected to come to all various houses.

  • 1. How was your weekend?  Not too bad unless you count my uversis account going out of the initial offer stage.  That was a $70 increase.  Also, signed paperwork for $250k of term life so I can cancel a $67k whole life policy.  That was another $60.
    2. Any progress on goals?  Besides automatic transfers, did pay an additional $65 on my credit card so I should be able to pay it off this month.  I also added an additional $20 to my car payment since my last payment was returned after the post office messed up the label.
    3. Will you be hosting for the holidays this year? Or how do you spend your holidays? We don't host.  We go to MW's grandfather's for Thanksgiving with her extended family.  Then we sometimes do something with my family if my parents are in town and if my brother and sister in law comes up.  Since we are having our second sometime in December, target date is either Dec. 22nd or Christmas day depending on how you count, we are going to most likely take it easy for Christmas.

Check out pinterest! Also Martha Stewart has some really good but easy Thanksgiving recipes. Check her website. The first year I hosted I did a turkey with a Maple syrup glaze via her website. Everyone loved it! Just keep it simple and have fun!

  • I pinned some recipes on Sunday.  Will definitely check out Martha's website.  Thanks!

  • @HoneyBee - Try to find as many "make ahead" dishes as possible. Don't be afraid to ask other people to bring stuff.  And also utilize the slow cooker.  I hosted my first two get togethers last year.  At a certain point, everything has to be planned around what will fit in the refrigerator and oven.  It helps to make a detailed timeline of when and where each item will be cooked.
