  • Birds mostly...ducks, geese, dove, and quail. I also do some deer hunting. DH and I eat what we hunt; we do not let it go to waste!

  • It sounds really cliche, but I love being a nurse because I love helping people. I love being able to help people feel better. When I go to work, I feel like I make a difference in my patients' lives. My oncology patients have an incredible strength that is amazing to see. I love that I can go to work having a bad day, and my patients (and coworkers) make my day better!

The worst part is dealing with patients' bodily fluids that don't smell wonderful. I don't enjoy cleaning patients after they have had a code brown, but it is a necessary part of my job. Also, I would want someone to clean me up if I was incapable if doing it myself or if I needed help. Providers with big egos or a "God complex" don't help situations either. The bad comes with the good though!

  • Thanks! You know it is never too late! I went to nursing school with a guy who was 54 when we graduated. If that is your dream, then go for it!

  • I used to work in oncology as well, and I agree that cancer patients have so much more strength than I ever would have imagined. I used to think it would be a depressing field to be in, but I saw so many amazing success stories. So many more than I would've guessed, but then of course you would lose patients that you grew attached to. It's bittersweet.
