Can we talk leggings?

Fashionistas I'm looking at you! Leggings are my next style I'd like to give a go. It looks so darn comfortable.

Honest opinion - can a plus sized woman like myself pull off leggings with boots? I fully plan to make sure my ass is covered with a shirt (tunic tops, long sweaters etc).

If I can pull it off, where can I get a good pair?

I don't see why you can't pull it off.  I personally like the thinker ones.  Some are very thin and only look good on people that have 0% body fat.  Also, the thicker ones are nice because if I bend over, they won't be see threw (I saw someones polka dot thong at the airport when she was bent over).  I bought some at Target, but they are maternity (didn't make it to my 16 week goal).  The other ones that I have were purchased a few years ago, so can't remember where I got them.

  • YES!

Have you checked out this site? http://www.curvygirlchic.com/  She is really good---I've seen her featured on People mag's website a lot.  I take a lot of tips from her and I'm not plus-sized-it's really more about balancing proportions.

Plus I love that she's a huge proponent of anyone being able to try any trend.  She even has a post on pulling off crop tops.  And she rocks it.

  • I don't really have advice on leggings.
However, yes you can pull of leggings!  As long as you feel good in them, do it!  I've seen a lot of plus size girls in leggings and they look really good, it's silly to think you have to be a certain size to wear anything.  Just my two cents.
  • Thanks girls!

@mrshall1027 - I definitely want the thicker kind!!  I plan to have my booty covered but just in case - They don't need to see my polka dot undies too!

@ramstein1027 - Ohh I'm checking out that blog now (added to my bloglovin as well).  I was following another girl but I haven't seen anything from her in a long time.  I think she was pregnant.

@goatlady12 - I just need self conscience trying on new styles.  I need to get out of my jeans and top rut. I really wish I lived closer to some of you to take me shopping!

  • @mana8503 I'd go shopping with you anytime :) I'm excellent with fashion advice for others, I just rarely follow it for myself!

  • If you find some great longer tops, let me know where you get them!! I love the legging with boots look and as someone bigger, I'm only comfortable with it with a long shirt. So yes, you definitely can pull it off!!

  • Costco has awesome ones that are fleece lined or jersey lined for the winter. And they aren't see through. I'm also a bigger girl. As long as you wear a longer top you're good to go!

  • I say go for it!!  Echoing what has already been said about wearing thick leggings that cover your bum and crotch though...I buy black thermal underwear from sport stores to wear as leggings.  Good luck!

  • Completely agree with completely coverings the back and front in leggings!  I've been wearing leggings so much lately that DH asked me if I even wore normal pants outside of work anymore.  LOL.  We went to Epcot Food & Wine festival for our anniversary, and I lived in leggings the entire trip, literally.  It was too cool in the mornings and nights for shorts, but too hot for jeans during the day.  I have several pairs from Target (Mossimo I think) that I wear all the time, but mostly just at home.  They're a little on the thin side.  I sleep in leggings just about every night.  I've found some thicker pairs at Old Navy that I wear out in public, but always cover the the butt and crotch.  I've also found some nice fleece lined ones for colder weather on Zulily that I really like.  They have some great deals if you don't mind waiting for them to arrive.

  • I actually have leggings in my cart at old Navy, all the reviews say they are thick. And then I have 3 tunic tops from lane Bryant (@xxjen015 - 40% off!) I love old Navy sends an email about your cart having abandonment issues. I do it all the time.

@ramstein1027 - I'm keeping my maternity tanks out which are super long not pregnant. Could I wear those under sweaters and be good?

  • @mana8503 A lot of people around here just wear sweater dresses with leggings in the winter.  Maybe that's just a Minnesota thing, but I think it looks cute.  Sweater dresses are probably way out of style but we're behind the times around here.
  • @mana8503 oh yeah. I've considered buying maternity tanks bc they look comfortable and long (Well!)

  • @goatlady12 - I'm still seeing sweater dresses I guess they are still in style.

I found the blog I used to follow! Somehow it wasn't on my blog lovin list. She pulls leggings off so well! I pulled the trigger got the leggings for ON and 3 tops from LB.

How cute it this outfit?! Tempted to get the top... It's only $25 lol.

  • @ramstein1027‌ I am still wearing maternity tanks also. They are Liz Lange maternity from Target. They are long and soft and amazing. They don't have the side rouching (sp?) so they don't look maternity.
  • I LOVE my one Liz Lange maternity tank!  I have it in black and I want to go back and get the other colors available.

Also @mana8503, that top is super cute!  I want that outfit!
