GTKY: DH and I & our wedding!

DH (Sam) and I met during our freshman year of college. We lived on the same floor, which is coincidentally where we met our best friends. We were a really tight-knit group, and we're still in touch with most of the people from that first year today. I don't know what we would have done if we hadn't had that support, since I think we both felt really thrown into the deep end in a lot of ways. That's a different story, though :P Anyways, it didn't take long that first year for us to start dating, and then to get serious. Our senior year, we decided to apply to grad schools in the same areas, and decided to move in together. I sort of knew that I was going to need to go to the UK to pursue my degree, so DH applied to schools there as well. It was touch and go for a while, but we eventually found out that we had both been accepted to our first choices in London! That was an exciting day. The summer between graduation and our move to the UK, we went on a graduation cruise with a bunch of friends. DH proposed in Belize, at the top of a Mayan ruin. It was amazing!

Here's us near the top, taken by a friend at the bottom - DH had just proposed, but they didn't know that yet!

We got married in August 2012. We did get married in the States, despite the fact that we had been in the UK for a year already. We wanted to make sure our families could be there, so home we flew. It was a bit tricky to plan from abroad, but everything turned out fantastically. Our colors were dark blue and pale pink. There's very little I would change about the day - I would warn my sister not to eat the dinner at the rehearsal dinner, since it made her sick. That's about it.

Now for some photos!

I just love this photo - the best man was cracking bad jokes (that's my "that joke was SO BAD" finger wag):

We had five flavors, actually, because we had two sheet cakes in the back, to make sure we had enough for everyone! Top tier was almond cake, middle tier was orange, bottom tier was strawberry, all with cream cheese icing. One sheet cake was half apple cinnamon and half carrot cake, with cream cheese icing over the whole thing. Then we had a plain vanilla cake with buttercream, because apparently some people don't like cream cheese icing, which I don't understand at. all.

Xunantunich! One of the ones where you are still allowed to climb to the top. Highly recommend it, it was so so so breathtaking.

The cruise also went to Honduras, but that's the extent of our central american travels. Someday I really want to go to Peru and hike to Machu Picchu.

That's the one we went to as well! Scary climbing up those tiny steep steps, but definitely worth it at the top! So sweet that you got engaged there!
