DIY Christmas gifts

any other crafters here? I often find that while DIY gifts are often a nice Idea they sometimes are not MM if you're seeking out on nice fabric or fibers.  However, last year I inherited a tone of quilting fabric and really nice yarn and tons of needles, so I'm hoping to take advantage of that to craft many of my gifts this year.  I often get my knitting patterns from Kintty or ralvalry, any other suggestions?

I also have yet to identify a good online source for quilting ideas.

Re: DIY Christmas gifts

  • Honestly Pinterest is an amazing source.

  • That's great that you got such great stuff!  I second Pinterest.  My coworker decided to do cookie mixes, dessert mixes, etc in mason jars a couple years ago.  It ended up being just as expensive as buying a gift because true mason jars can be pricey - specifically the tinted ones.  Also she used good quality ingredients.

  • I get my crocheting patterns from ravelry and pinterest. Idk if I'm making anything for gifts this year. I'm trying to finish the 5 projects I have going right now.

  • I hear you! I ofent get stuck in the middle of projects and get bored with how slow they are going, so I'm trying to pick slightly less complicated projects than I normally pick, so far the cabled scarf for my mom looks good. :) that was a kintty find.

I sometimes find that projects on pinterest link to great photos, but instructions/patterns are not always the best.... I'm not the kind of person who can see something and figure it out, I need the pattern.

  • I can eye ball some patterns well. Like the cute hats for babies. I just made E a sheep hat from looking at a pic from pinterest. Sometimes you can see what the name is and look it up on ravelry.

I've found a lot of scarves and crowls with great patterns instructions and or videos!

  • I found some great options for homemade soaps online. I'm still hunting for the perfect use for wine corks. Last year I made ornaments and decorative trees with them. I like to give something homemade in addition to more traditional gifts.
  • @mana8503 that hat is so cute!

  • @HoneyBee973‌, thanks! I think I'm gonna add a flower.

It depends on what you are making. craftsy.com has lots of patterns and ideas.  modabakeshop.com has free quilting patterns. Pinterest and etsy are always awesome.
I make stuffed animals, embroider, cross stitch, and have recently started quilting so I made my girls 2 doll quilts, mattresses, and pillows for their doll beds we bought from IKEA as part of their x-mas present. I'm also going to make MIL a quilted table runner and I make stuffed animals for any new baby for family and friends.. have a lion due in a few weeks. It's a lot of fun and if you start out with something easy and take your time, you can build up your confidence and make some really neat things that are very custom and special for family and friends. GL!
