AW: I'm actually building a tiny human!

We had our first appointment yesterday, and it was awesome. We got to see Peanut on a little handheld "Game Boy Ultrasound," as DH described it, then hear the HB (172!!) on doppler. We weren't expecting an u/s until the anatomy scan since I know the practice doesn't do a "real" one except in the case of problems or if you're unsure of your dates. It was so cool seeing the little munchkin kicking in there! We were also worried it could be too early to hear the heartbeat at 9w3d, so that was reassuring, especially since my symptoms have been so mild.

I think we love our midwife, too. We actually have 3 who work as a team and rotate on-call, so we only met one, but she was great. She spent over an hour with us between going over my medical history, doing her spiel, answering all of our questions perfectly, and the exam and u/s.

Anyway, just wanted to share - there's actually a person in there!

This exactly. I was seriously expecting to cry, but really I just didn't believe it. I still have to convince myself every once in a while that there's no way she could have somehow had pre-made video/audio and just been pretending it was really my ultrasound/doppler... I feel crazy.

  • I felt the same way when I saw Adalyn for the first time. I remember being surprised that there really was a baby in there, even though I knew there was. It was a strange feeling. An amazing but strange feeling. :)

Also, I'm calling girl right now. :)

Wow, that was quick. You'll have to remind me later on that you said this. I have no idea, but I have dreamt about a girl.

  • I'm super jealous you got an ultrasound at 9 weeks! Unless something changes, I won't get one until the anatomy scan.
