Are you guys ready for the "arctic blast" coming in this week?

I'm so not ready at all!  I know some of you live in the south so be thankful, but I'm in the mid west.  Today was high 60s and tomorrow is 39 for a high and 30s all thru next weekend.

This last weekend we spent time winterizing the yard.  Dumped out dead flowers, put away cushions and humming bird feeders - all that fun stuff.  Tonight before dinner I helped DH carry down our butterfly bush potted plant into the basement and I could feel the cold air coming in.  Now I'm only hoping for 1 more warm weekend to put up the outdoor xmas lights.

  • Funny...  Just as I clicked on this thread, H commented on the increasingly blustery wind.  He and I walked outside tonight knowing it would likely be the last for a while.  We live in PV, so we'll be cleaning up leaves likely through December.  It's a beautiful mess this time of year.

  • ugh, so not ready! I did not get to digging-up my dhalias this weekend.

it got down to 28 here last night, solid frost on the ground this morning. there are snowflakes showing up in my 5 day forecast :(

one of the only things I like about winter is skiing, but it's just so *%&# expensive! Grandma knows the dog has skijouring equipment on her Christmas wish list, fingers crossed ;)

  • I was in western NC last week when they got 3-4 inches. I'm so not ready! It got down to 17 at night.

Looks like midatlantic is suppose to get down to the 40s this week. Blah!

  • We've had some snow flurries but nothing has stuck yet. Not ready! Shopping trip planned for this weekend will be in the chilly 30s. :(

  • I dread this time of year! I'm convinced that we have all these late in the year fun family holidays to keep us from going insane as winter approaches. We had some snow that stuck to the ground last weekend. I think we're getting the Arctic blast just in time for next weekend. Luckily today and tomorrow will be in the upper 50s/low 60s so I'm going to do my best to appreciate that!

  • I live in Northern Ohio and hubby and I have been preparing for weeks. Nothing extreme, just normal fall clean up, putting outdoor stuff away for the winter & doing some winterizing around the house to hopefully help with the warmth of the house. Also I figured it would be another rough winter so when winter stuff was still on clearance I stocked up on some needed winter clothing. Tonight we just have to put the winter cover on our deck chairs and table, probably a 20 minute job. If the weather & sunlight holds out long enough I may try to run over the lawn one more time with the lawn mower to mulch the last of the leaves that have fallen. But I wish I would have done some of the Christmas lights last weekend when it was still very nice. If it stays cold from not until christmas, there will be no outdoor lights this year which isn't the end of the world.

  • It doesn't sound like it will be too bad here, just 30s-40s and some light rain and snow. I don't really mind winter, so I'm ready. It gets me to slow down and relax a bit. I do think it's hilarious that every year now we get crazier names for winter weather. Arctic cyclone, arctic blast, what's next?
  • We got about 4-6 inches of snow last Saturday and will get a few more inches throughout the day/night on Friday. The high this Saturday looks like 30.

I love Maine but it is too early for this crap.

  • I live in Texas and I'm not ready. I know we aren't getting as cold as the rest of you, but I still haven't found the box with coats in it since we moved, and that would be nice to have middle of the afternoon or so after the front has come through here.

  • I am right in the target area UP of Mich- we have at least a foot of snow already(on Monday) with 12-18 inches more due to arrive today(Tues).  Then the cold will arrive.
Although the amounts of snow for the first arrival of "white stuff" is more than usual, the timing is not abnormal.
What is to prep for? We have all the smae snow removal equipment, & groceries as well a full tanks of gas in the cars. Good to go.
Good books on hand as the satelllte dish conks out with alot of snow on it.

They won't plow until this ends - so only essential services are in operation around here today (and kids playing in the snow of course).

  • We will be in the 40's again for a few days coming up with a chance for some snow/sleet/rain maybe? Ugg...this will be the first for us! Luckily it should be on the weekend, but I still have my second job to drive to (10 minutes away though. )
  • Not ready.  At. All!

We're remodeling the biggest room in our house and it just so happens to be the room the wind hits first.  The guys had to remove all of the insulation and are completely redoing it and adding more.  Up until last night it had no insulation.  Because of that, it cools the rest of the house off very quickly.  So nope, not ready for this 30's and under thing yet.

One plus though, I got new tires on my SUV last week and H is getting his new ones installed on his car today.  So we should be good to go for the winter with our cars.  We also put his show car into storage on Sunday.  Just in time for it to snow today.

  • I'm in the Minneapolis area, the northern part of The Cities got a lot, here in the southern part we only had a few inches. We were told to expect 10-16 inches, though. We got all prepared and even put the Christmas lights up (unlit until after Thanksgiving), but we're a little "disappointed." The kids really wanted a big snow!

Wow, the UP! I've always wanted to visit-but probably in the summer! Stay warm!
  • @sisugal Where at in the UP?  My brother and I go snowmobiling on the trails up there every year, and are possibly going in December (if my doctor okay's it).  I would love to meet up.

  • Christmas lights are also on our list of things to do! It's 59 out right now, maybe we should try to do that tonight and just hold-off plugging them in until after thanksgiving.

H is even home right now...now if only he knew which plants were the dhalias :/

  • DH has today off (lucky teachers!) so he did a bunch of outside stuff. Got the snowblower out from the back of the garage, put up our lights, put away things, fed the evergreens, raked, mowed.. so glad he had one nice day before the weather changes!

We visit Ignace and the Island in May or late October. Very quiet! We're due to return to Tahquamenon Falls which we'd rather do in the summer. Beautiful!
