  • I bought a pair of boots last night and hate them this morning. Nothing like wasting money right before Christmas.

  • I caught up with a friend that I was stationed with in Okinawa the other day on LinkedIn and have been taking a trip down memory lane since. I realized that had I stayed in the Marine Corps, I would be retiring in 3 years, at 38 years old.

When were you in Okinawa? I know it's a small chance, but I had a friend who was there around 2001.

I'm going to try, but I treated them last night so I'm not sure if they'll take them back.

  • All week long I look forward to my days off so that I can clean and get stuff done around the house. I even make a to-do list. But then the actual days get here and I get incredibly lazy and just want to read and procrastinate on the cleaning. I don't know who I'm trying to kid all week.

98-99. I was at Quantico in 2001. It doesn't hurt to ask. The Marine Corps is definitely a small world.

  • I've been slowly going through the Outlander series, for like the past three years, currently on A Breath of Snow and Ashes. I love the books, but there is something so overwhelming about being on Chapter 15 of a book and the library pop-up stat showing I am only 10% done with the book. And yet I read all of The Wheel of Time books, with no qualms about their length. Maybe the difference of physical book vs ebook is my problem when it comes to lengthy books - no pop up showing me I have a lot more to go, and the sense of satisfaction of being able to visually see in thickness the number of pages I have already read.

  • I cannot WAIT to go home tonight. I am trying a new recipe, and I am dying to sit and read while it cooks. It's finally not a million degrees here. It's still not cold (66 degrees), but I am going to pretend it is, dammit!

I just listened to an audiobook where the narrator pronounced Quantico, Quan-TEE-co- it drove me absolutely crazy.  That's incorrect, isn't it?  Or have I been pronouncing it wrong?

No, you're right. It is pronounced kwon-ti-koh. That would have driven me nuts as well. There is a town here in Delaware called Lewes, pronounced like Lewis, and all of the tourons and transplants pronounce it like Lou's. Drives me crazy.

  • Oh gosh, I can't count how many town names are mispronounced here.  To be fair, we're probably doing it wrong, but we're the locals.  Worcester is the best one, I think.

TBH, 66 is  considered pretty cold here, too. I feel silly saying that, but our weather ranges from about 85-60 year round. I don't think I could function in anything below 50 degrees.

The main street in my home town is El Dorado -- pronounced as one word, EL-door-A-doh -- and drives my H insane.  The town skimped on the street signs for Martin Luther King, Jr. Street and put MLKing, so now everyone calls it Milking Street.  There's also a near-ish town called Haiti and we pronounce it Hay-tie.  Gotta love it.
