Happy Friday!

What are you reading? Is it for one of the challenges? Just for fun, if you are celebrating (or have already had) Thanksgiving, will you be a host or a guest?

Re: Happy Friday!

  • I am reading a BDB book but I can't remember the exact name of it.  I think it is number 10.  I am also doing an Outlander reread.

I'm Canadian so Thanksgiving has already come and gone here. I'm in Christmas mode already.

  • Doing a reread of Thoughtless by S.C. Stephens and about to start The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd.

I will be a guest at my MIL's, since we are ripping up carpet in our house and replacing with hardwood laminate. Yay! I would much rather be a guest. You know, because I'm lazy. :)

  • All She Ever Wanted by Lynn Austin.  I love her but not this book.

    #127

I'm definitely not hosting Thanksgiving.  We always go to my parents' but my mom is really not with it since my grandma died so I have no idea what's going on.

  • Still working on The Raven Boys.  This is not a reflection on the book, but a reflection of my new job kicking my butt and me falling into a coma by 9:30 p.m. every night.  It's #70 for the year.

    I'm hosting Thanksgiving this year.

    It's slippery as waterweed.
  • I am reading  Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War by Mark Bowden and A Slant of Light by Garth Stein.  They are books 109 and 110 for the year and I am enjoying both of them.

I am boycotting Thanksgiving.  My mom turns it into a clusterfuck every year.  So now she is all upset because she insisted on hosting this year and yet she doesn't know what time dinner will be but expects us to be there.  Meanwhile, we have a blind, deaf, old dog at home that likes to pee on the floor if we aren't home to let him outside and I don't know when step-monster #1 is coming home from school or if step-monster #2 even has to work that day.  So I can't commit if I don't know what time dinner is.  So I told my mom not to count on us being there and now I am getting the whiney mom thing from her.

I tell her every year that it is just easier for me to host because I have the house for it, I love to cook and it is just easier for people to come to my house.  My sister can bring her dog (my dog cant' travel).  But whatever.  I hate holidays.

  • I'm reading Mr. Mercedes, good so far, it is #120 for the year.

I'm also listening to Revival, it is #121 for the year and it's great!

We're going to my husband's sister's house for Thanksgiving, I don't even want to do that.  I have to make a few things but nothing major.

I listening to Fangirl. I'm not sure what I think yet. It's good, but I keep waiting for something to happen.

I'm also re-reading Raven Boys. And by re-reading, I mean it's sitting untouched on my nightstand still.

Our Thanksgiving is in October and we were guests. We don't have enough space to host.

  • I am just about to finish Wicked as She Wants by Delilah Dawson. It has been fairly predictable but okay so far. I think it is around 135 for the year.

We are hosting a couple of friends this year. It'll be low key and we will likely eat all day, so my favorite kind of holiday.

@booneybear I think you've posted pictures of your kitchen before and you do have the perfect house to host!

  • I have one chapter (15 pages) left in Defining Memory and then I am DONE with reading academic stuff until I get offered another teaching gig. Done! Tonight we are going to one of the libraries in Roanoke and I shall pick out lovely fiction and enjoy the hell out of it.

Thanksgiving is just the two of us, and I cook all day. It's rather lovely.

  • Thanks to PMS induced insomnia I got a lot of reading done this week.

Finished Blue Lily, Lily Blue.  I didn't love it as much as everyone else did.  It was okay but not my favorite in the series.  I may appreciate it more once the next one comes out.

Started and finished Damsel Distressed.  It was perfect!  I didn't realize that a Nestie wrote it until the very end.

Now I'm reading The Sky is Everywhere.  I just started so I don't have any real opinions on it yet.

For Thanksgiving we usually go to my MIL's.  It's potluck so I will have atleast 2 dishes to cook.  Got to get past my daughter's birthday before I can think about Thanksgiving though!

  • I am reading The Loyalist's Luck by Elaine Cougler.  It is #74 for the year.

We are going to MIL's and then to DH's grandparents (FIL's family).  I wish I was hosting; my ILs can't cook to save their life.  I end up just eating mashed potatos and rolls.

  • I'm reading The Enchanter Heir, and am enjoying it. This series isn't as wonderful as the Seven Realms series was, but I still really like it.

I also started Revival, and am really loving it so far.

I'm reading Some Luck on my kindle. It's a little odd. At times, it is written from the viewpoint of a newborn. The more I read, the more I get into it, though.

I am usually a guest at my Aunt's for Thanksgiving, but this year the Niners are playing at home, so we'll be at the football game.

  • Trying to get through Rooms by Lauren Oliver.  Not really into it so far.  The I'm going to start Seventh Grave and No Body, that I am excited to read.

  • I'm 38% through HP and the GOF. As usual, I love it.

I love holidays but omg I hate them too. We have four Thanksgiving dinners to go to, and everyone is going to whine and cry when we have to leave to head to the next. Every single year this happens.

MIL is the worst about it and gets all passive aggressive about it. "What do you mean you're leaving early? Well fine, we'll just have to eat really fast since you like XYZ family better." Or "I would just like to have my family all together for one holiday!" *sobs*

WE ARE ALL TOGETHER FOR EVERY HOLIDAY. But she plans it at the exact time FIL's (they're divorced) having dinner every year, just to see whose house her kids choose to go to.

This woman likes to call dibs on every holiday. And gets butthurt when we can't come to an elaborate dinner on St. Patrick's Day (she is not even Irish) because we want to go out and have fun instead.

  • I'm reading Present Shock and listening to Blue Lily, Lily Blue. I need another fiction book to read and I can't seem to settle on something since I finished Make You Mine a few days ago.

We're having a quiet, no frills Thanksgiving at our house or my in-laws and then a bigger dinner with Turkey and everything at my sister's on Saturday with the whole family when my parents get to town.

Your MIL's holiday planning sounds frustrating. Hugs.

That would seriously drive me insane, kudos to you for even attempting four dinners!

I'm reading The One & Only by Emily Giffen and I'm loving it.

We'll be guests at DH's aunt's big extended family dinner.  I think I'm going to bake pumpkin snicker doodles.

If everyone didn't serve wine I'm not sure how it would happen.  ;)
