Another Interview Update

Yesterday, I had an interview at the place that I applied on a whim before we left for CA. They contacted me that they wanted me to do a writing test a few days after we got back from CA. Apparently I scored really high on the test ,so I was invited to interview yesterday. I think they will make me an offer, but that may not be a good thing....

The interview was fine. it was long (about 3 hours) but they didn't really ask me many questions. Mostly they talked about the job(s)...I was actually interviewing for 2 different positions at the same time. I did have to take a 10 minute "attention to detail test". Basically, I had to look at lists of numbers or letters and say if list a was the same or different than list b.

I have a few major concerns about this job. First, the company seems like it's extremely micromanaged. Everything you do has to go to your quality control partner and then to a quality control supervisor. The QC comments that you get are reviewed periodically by your boss and you get in trouble if you make too many mistakes. This worries me, not because I make a lot of mistakes, but because what happens if your QC partner is an ass and continually gives you bad QC comments...it just seems like you're so open to sabotage. Second, there's a 90 day probation/training period and it sounds really terrible. I had visions of myself coming home in tears every night! Finally, the jobs seem boring. The one job is a lot of glorified paper pushing, the other job is less paper pushing but still seems boring.

So...I would take this job if I'm not offered the one that I interviewed for last week, but I wouldn't be happy about it. The job that I interviewed for last week is my dream job! The one this week would be a job that would pay me, but also make me miserable. My fingers are crossed so hard that I get the dream job and don't have to take the misery job! I also hope that dream job makes a decision soon (they're interviewing the final candidate on Fri) because I think misery job wants to move quickly. I can't say no to misery job until I know for sure that I got dream job.

Thanks for all of the positive vibes and good thoughts that all of you have been sending my way lately. I appreciate it more than you know!

Re: Another Interview Update

  • Ooh, good luck.  I've been in a job limbo situation before so I suggest if you don't hear back from dream job, take misery job for now.  Dream job might just be slower at getting back to people, and you can always leave misery job if offered dream job.  But if you turn down misery job, there is still a chance dream job might pass too...then you would have no job and that would be sad:(

  • I told my references to stall getting back to misery job if/when they're contacted. That should buy me some more time for dream job to make a decision. Also, if I do get an offer from misery job, I'd be calling dream job and see if I can speed them along to a decision.

I don't want to be in a situation where I have no job. Even misery job is better than no job, LOL.

  • Oh my goodness, what a conundrum! I'm really hoping dream job works out for you. I took a job once that was a misery job just to get out of the job I was in and hated every second of it! But, I survived and you will too.

I'm still keeping everything crossed for you that it will work out!

  • Oh man, I hope you get an update on dream job soon!  And like others said, if you do end up going with the misery job, at least it's something for now and who knows, maybe it won't be as bad as you think once you're in there.

  • Any calls yet?!
  • Misery job sent me an online thing so that they can do a background check. They sent it on Wed, but I've been stalling to buy more time for dream job to make a decision. I'll probably send back the background check thing late this afternoon...I don't want to piss them off. I also told my references to stall if they are contacted for a reference (references are done by email at this place, so I told my references to sit on the email for a few days if they receive one.

Dream job was interviewing their last candidate today. I'm hoping that they can come to a quick decision...pick me, pick me!
